Correct. And it may turn out to be the super-est el nino ever. Still, August it TX sucks always. But remember all the rain we got in June, should see it again in the fall to winter

and another thing...

the derecho and Beryl in 2024 knocked down a slew of big trees -- oak, pine, etc..,

that were providing nice shade for people's houses and yards

huge difference in 100-degree heat when the shade tree is gone

i went running at 5:45 yesterday, and I was literally the only person out in my neighborhood and running path. not a walker, runner, biker, or scooter in sight.

Every other forecasters I've seen is saying the high pressure heat dome is only going west for a couple of days, then moving back east to roast us some more.

Dude we just did and although I was only away for 4 days before I had to come back to tx for work, I immediately realized I was no longer built for this heat as soon as I got on to the jetway when I got back. Driving back to the NE and I can not freaking wait to get there. This heat is gayer than aids.

Yeah, the summer always feels worse if I go somewhere with mild temps then come back.

If I'm here then I just get used to it. To the point where the first late September front than brings an 88 degree day with low humidity feels perfect.

Yall remember 2011? That was almost depressing. Drove the backroads to the A&M/Oklahoma State game (also depressing) and it looked borderline apocalyptic. Everything brown, cattle famished. Just an unbearably hot super-drought.

LOL let's not act like some huge lush rain forest with lots of jungle canopy was ripped outta the ground, causing the ground to be fried. The amount of trees downed in by those two weather events are infinitesimally negligible as it relates to shade, temps or comfort. The people who had shade trees before Beryl or the straight line storms weren't sitting outside in 100-degree weather.

I would gladly take 3-4 months of winter. Im tired of sweating my ass off for 9 months every year.

Exactly. 2011 and 2012 were way worse.

The people complaining about this summer are getting their info from people who literally receive no punishment if they are wrong or if they straight up lie as it relates to their job.

This thread really shows who doesn't get outside of the city or their house at all. SE is still fairly green for late August. We had a wet June and some rain into July.

Midday sucks balls like always during August. Evenings are breezy and pleasant. It's Texas.

It is warmer than it was decades ago due to urban heat island effect.

August mornings in the 60s have gone the way of the dodo bird and even overnight lows of the low 70s are disappearing.

I went and looked up the data at IAH, in the 90s you had 25 August nights where lows were in the 60s (16 were 67-69 and 9 were 60-66), so 2-3 nights per August. Overall average low of 73 degrees on August nights in the 90s.

That doesn't happen anymore. Too much asphalt and concrete everywhere storing the heat.

Yeah 2011 was the worst heat + drought I've personally experienced. Had a large pond go dry that had never been dry before or even come close to since.

This is just not true lol. Both actual temp and the heat index is regularly in the high 90s at sunset and later

I did the same and there were quite a few people out exercising. Yeah it was dark, but it is the least miserable part of the day to be outside.

I don't have the time or desire to confirm, but this is what Houston in August feels like. There's a variation from year to year but it's always miserable.

I graduated from A&M in May 98 and moved to Houston. Grew up in Victoria so very familiar with Gulf Coast weather but I was a kid. I didn't really pay attention to it other than knowing it was hot.

I'll never forget one morning in August of 98 walking out of my apartment at 6:15. No sun in sight. Had on a long sleeve button up and slacks. I was an actual adult in "dress" clothes and not a kid in t-shirt and shorts.

It was 82 and humid. I felt an immediate inclination of sweat. The rest of the day didn't get any cooler.

This is what Houston in August does. It makes you question why you live here. It's the one real month that puts your mettle to the test because it's the bridge between fun summer activities and football/Fall.

It's a miserable month because there's no fun activities so you realize just how freaking miserable the weather is.

It's been this way and it's gonna be this way.

I understand there is climate change because that's what Mother Nature does, but let's not act like this August is any different than the last 50.

Sure, there's a little nuance from year to year but an August in Houston is miserable. It separates the real Houstonians from the pretend ones.

Aggie Football kicks off next Saturday.

Let's just all buckle in for a little over a week. Then we can focus our misery on the Aggies letting us down yet again.
