Looking for a window contractor that sells Anderson windows. Looking to replace two windows. I will be upfront, I'm most interested in the the straight window price, potentially old window removal. Not really budgeting for full window replacement service as this is part of a larger DIY project but will listen to bids.

All recommendations besides Renewal by Anderson are appreciated.

We used Houston Window Experts and they did a great job. We went with Anlin windows but they have all the big brands

We used Mike with Cambridge Doors & Windows out of Stafford. He's been great and the windows are actually DYC out of Dallas. Really wanted a window that was more local to the region, not some massive molding / framing (we opted aluminum over the vinyl competition) and was black.

Used them as well for a full home replacement. Not the cheapest (nor the most expensive), it was a good experience.

I work for Trophy Windows and we manufacture vinyl windows. We are located in 77066 close to Willowbrook Mall. We are only the manufacturer so we don't offer removal or installation, however, we can recommend one of our subcontractors to assist with the labor and measuring your windows. Give me a shout if you are still needing windows.

Maybe a dumb question here, but can anyone share actual cost range? I've heard around $1k per window installed for a home with a good amount of windows, but that could be way off.

General cost breakdowns reflect that a full window replacement is really buying three things: removal, new window purchase, and install. Removal and install are pretty static cost wise. They cost money and time and don't get cheaper with buying more. What you're actually buying (the window) is highly variable. The high cost floor warps spending decisions because you could pay $1000 total for the cheapest, dogcrap window to be installed and $1500 for a very nice long lasting window. Suddenly $500 doesn't sound like much of a difference. But it gets expensive in a hurry if you're doing a lot of windows.

Some early lessons learned:
-Removal costs are generally buried in the labor charge.
-Window purchase itself is highly variable ($300 for builder grade entry level single hung vinyl windows, 700+ for good composite single hung windows, sky is the limit for premium window features)
-Install is about $300 a window.
-Line item highway robbery for things like mulling windows together ($250 a window)
-No contractor is planning to do this job the same way. Some want to take the exterior trim off. Others bristled at the insinuation they would take a window off from the outside.
-New construction versus renovation windows is a blurring distinction. It used to be about if the window had a nail fin around it or not. Lots of new construction windows don't do nail fins for water shedding.

I am constantly reminded why I hate hate hate the regional/local middleman supply chain business model. I've got a bunch of random named window companies that I can't see their product line or pricing. Everyone has a favorite brand (that they get the best margins on) and I can't get a straight answer on quality on anything.

EDIT: Recently got a quote from a highly recommended full service window company on this thread and it was 2k a window, signed sealed and delivered. Yeesh. Granted it was their top single hung window, but they were damn proud of it. Just ridiculous.

Did a window replacement in 2021 right before the historic freeze and used Houston Window Experts. Went with Amsco single hung and have been very happy. Service and install was really good and while more expensive than Pella, I felt comfortable with the price. Installers were not subs, were actual HWE employees.

I've always wondered the costs so I'm glad someone asked and you explained. Our neighbors said they got a quote a few years ago and it was like $40k for their house. WTF?????

Our house is 45 years old and still has the original single pane windows. I'd love to get new windows, but at $40k?!?! It's so much cheaper to just build a new house, than upgrade/renovate an old house! $25k to replace AC, $40k for new windows, $15k to repipe, $19k for a new roof, $15k for kitchen cabinets....already at $114k just on that!!!

Does it make any sense to upgrade windows a few at a time, rather than all at once?

Pricing is all over the board as described, but I do NOT recommend replacing just a few at a time. Ask me why - my previous supplier (Not Cambridge that I recommended above) got sideways with the manufacturer (out of NJ) and then I couldn't find another installer of that window in Houston. I learned the hard way to either do them all or be comfortable knowing you may not be able to get that exact window again.

In the middle of a remodel currently and below is what I just got to replace two bathroom glass block windows.
36" x 36" Fixed Non Opening, Lowe tempered safety over Tempered Obscure Pattern 62 safety glass.
Price $ 768 / window and that was smaller windows without demo of existing or installation cost. Add $500 each for installation by framer.

We replaced 32 windows in 2022, as well as front/back door and wooden siding (as well as some of the eaves).

Two different companies bid and each for windows was about $750-$1,000 installed. I honestly think they ordered from the same catalog (or highly similar).

Was able to negiotiate some prices down since we were doing several things at once, so technically labor was lowered on half the windows (half wood, half brick) since they were doing siding at the same time. So much easier to replace a window with the siding off.
