So how cold will the Houston metro area get? Say 30 miles North.

And if the snow/ ice happen, my biggest problem is the city of Houston closing roads and bridges. Crazy but they actually close the bridge over the San Jacinto West River on West Lake Houston Pkwy every time it has a little ice on it.

Ok. How about the next 3 days after Sunday? It's the below 25 numbers that scare my plumbing.

I'm not worried about plumbing with this one.

The temps don't seem crazy low and they are only below freezing for a short amount of time.

Either way I would imagine we'll see roads being an absolute shlt show and bridges closed.

Yep, seems like we probably aren't getting the extreme cold. Probably? getting some precip, hopefully it's snow. But I don't care too much about what precip we get (outside of straight ice), because I'll just work from home and not leave til it clears up.

More importantly - it doesn't seem like this is going to be a big ice storm that breaks powerlines, is that right?

Does anyone have experience with freeze misers on your outdoor faucets? I bought some in the off season to have for a potential hard freeze after seeing them online, but haven't tried them out yet.

Holy smokes. If this happens, just close the south for a few days.

Used them during the couple day hard freeze we got last January. They worked very well for me.

I just use a cut up pool noodle to cover my outdoor faucets. Preciously I used Buccees cups, all worked just fine.

Mine did as well. It definitely adds piece of mind. I think this is my third year using them.

First night a had to wake up in the middle of the night and go outside to make sure they were working though!
I had a mental block that said I have to wrap all the outside faucets. But, now with the freeze misers, I don't even think about it once I put them on in the winter.

They work. I've heard of lot's of ranchers using them as well for their water troughs in places that get much colder than houston. They put a Y conection on the faucet and a freeze miser on one side.

So, looks like we went from "looks like it's not gonna be so bad" yesterday right back to "oh **** here it comes"

Obviously too early to tell with great confidence- but looks like I might be getting a decent amount of snow in The Woodlands

FYI... Your Canadian care package is on its way. I'm up in Saskatoon. Yesterday the high was 37. It was 31 and snowing when I went to bed.

When I woke up this morning it was 15. It's still dropping. It's 10 now while I eat breakfast. Tomorrow high, -16.

All temperatures above listed in Freedom, not Canadian.

I worked up there years ago and we would shut down in October/November for the year. Can get -30 and even colder than that. I asked the locals what they do when it's that cold and they literally just ride it out drinking and watching hockey and football.

First ski trip I ever took to Canada, one day, the "high" temp for the day was -35. That was a pecker shrinker, my friends.

I think you meant "previously," but then again, it's hard to tell, as all Buc-ee's cups are precious.

I believe "helltothenaw" is the proper translation for "-"
It's forecast to be -28 Sunday here when the front gets to Houston.

Looks like the space city guys are trending more towards a cold and snowy next week, but still lots of uncertainty.

Interesting that the snow stops before the coast. Seems like it usually has more on the coast than inland based on the moisture off the gulf.
BayAg_14
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I assume it is because it is taking longer for the freezing temps to get to the coast. Less time for the rain to switch over to snow and accumulate.

I don't get worried until I see Frankie MacDonald predicting adverse weather.

Well, he still has not put out a Texas update thus far, but he sure as sh&t did post a video of himself being chased by an imaginary troop of gorillas.

That's because it is ice in the run.

Hi-res NAM coming in 6-8 degrees colder than the GFS, right on cue!

Globals do not handle arctic air well, when its greater than 3 days.

I've heard they work great, but I think I'd be constantly going outside to check on them to make sure they were still working.
