I get that the constant kickouts and jacking/bricking 3s may not be as enjoyable to some...but the sheer athleticism of the players is on another level from the old NBA yall are referencing. MJ is the greatest and was my favorite player back from when I was a kid. He was athletically superior to most of his peers back in the day...but he wouldn't be in today's league. I appreciate it for what it is.
It's a different league today, kind of like the NFL. In the NFL you can have lanky athletic receivers making acrobatic catches over the middle and athletic QBs who can run and put up video game numbers.

But that really wasn't possible in prior iterations of the NFL because they would've been concussed the very first game they tried that.

Similar deal in the NBA: It was much more physical than today's game, so through rule changes you've selected for certain types of players.

You think Steph Curry could do what MJ did against the Pistons, Knicks, Jazz, etc back in the 80s and 90s? I love Steph but he would've been beat up on both sides of the floor with aggressive hand-checking defense in his pocket and constant hard pick and rolls and body checks while on defense.

people won't start going to the Rockets game unless they get a big name star right now there are just a bunch of dudes on the team, I guess Alpie is their best player, but no one cares about him.

Jalen Green is pretty freaking awesome when he is on.

I really like Jabari Smiths game. He is only getting better. I think he is a big piece for the future. Big time defense, good shooting. Lots of hustle.

Yes he is and opening the second half on a 15-3 run was tuff.

I went to my first Rockets game at the Toyota last season with my kid's basketball team. I agree, they are pretty fun to watch -- lots of great ball movement and dunks. But also agree that the NBA as a whole is pretty unwatchable as a basketball fan. Spread / isolation / kickouts / chucking -- just isn't a great watch.

I grew up with Sunday after-church NBA as appointment television. Celtics, Lakers, Sixers, Pistons, Knicks - there was always a great matchup. Bird, Magic, Dr. J, Malone, Barkley, Jordan, Dominique.

I watched strong through the Rockets' championships, then interest slowly waned until it was non-existent.

The Rockets are gearing up to be a potential championship contender, and some of you yelling at clouds, complain about it. "NIL has turned CFB into semi-pros. The NFL is trash". Blah blah blah. I'm surprised yall have haven't turned on baseball with all the show boating going on now, and now maybe half of the league comes from the Carribean flavor.

That said, if it weren't for the Rockets? I probably wouldn't care about the current NBA. I havent seen a second of that waste of space the NBA Cup is. And maybe, hopefully, we finally get back to having defense in the league. The NBA ratings decline may finally force them to actually run plays and make it a science again instead of basic screen and jacking up 3s.

The Rockets may win a championship, and we'll be a better sports town. I could care less about hockey. Let Austin have that.

Mid 80's to mid 90's was peak NBA. The defense, the physicality. The Rockets/Knicks finals was downright violent. We will never again see the defensive effort we used to see as kids.

Michael Jordan wouldn't be in today's league? Like he couldn't make a team nowadays?

He wouldn't be as atheltically superior to the other players like he was 30 years ago. The players are much more athletic across the board now vs then.

I don't know man, I think even "mid" guys like John Starks would be shutting fools like Stephon Curry down. Dudes now wouldn't know how to handle aggressive defense.

Steph Curry is the best shooter in the history of the league. John Starks would have "shut him down?"

The legaue was also officiated much differently back then, for better or worse.

But the across the board length and athleticism of today's NBA is incredible (and superior to the previous generation). My pont was that's what makes it fun for me to watch. But admittedly, I'm not into it near as much as I was back then.

Yes, he would not even begin to know how to handle aggressive, in your face, relentless defense at that level. He would have gotten run out of that league.

Lack of defense is great for those who can hit 3's. Imagine Reggie Miller in a league where defenders weren't in-your-face and the style of play in a typical game was akin to that of an All Star game. I'd imagine his shooting stats would be significantly better.

Gen Z seems to think Jordan didn't play against players like Shawn Kemp, Grant Hill, or Penny in the 90s who were all very athletic. Heck, Nick Van Exel and Rod Strickland could've been HOFers in today's guard centric league I think. The league ebbs and flows based on the trends. It was a big man's league back then, so athletic Point Forwards and two guards weren't as highighted.

Is the NBA stacked now top to bottom with more athletically gifted players? Yes, I don't think there's any arguement there. But that topped in the 90s. With AAU and the nepotism from players boosting their kids or siblings, you can also argue the league is plagued eith favortism and with less skill low IQ players.

Hakeem and Robinson would be every bit as lethal today than they were back then.

I think it's time to take down the Comets banners. They were disbanded in 2008.

Don't forget drawing the best defenders from the Bad Boy Pistons, Celtics, Knicks, Bucks night-in and night-out. And he still scored 30+ and was all-NBA defense. I believe he would still dominate against this no-D style that is played now.

Rockets smoked the Hornets last night! The score doesn't indicate how much they let off the gas in the second half.

Doubling them up at the half was pretty sweet. Hornets were shooting brick city.
