If it were a normal not-Labor Day weekend, I'd put up the Natalita's bat signal and see if I could snag Mr Nice Guy to join you.

Next time

We shall make it happen

What happened to those old Tech fan twins that ran Griff's for a while until it burned down.

Would go around with shots when Tech scored.

I forget why it closed. I seem to recall them claiming they were going to try and use it for a private event venue but I don't think they did or if they did, it didn't last long.

I know restaurants are a tough business but that place was full every time we went and we went pretty regularly.

that whole F.E.E.D Restaurant Group dissolved.

I feel like there were a bunch of those spots that had a location or two that did well, went on an expansion run, then failed.

Caswell, Treadsack, etc.'

edit...Looks like the main chef from the group went through recovery and is now a life coach

Wasn't Lee Ellis also part of creating BRC? I know he helped start up State Fare which at first was supposed to somewhat be a spiritual successor to BRC.

Speaking of restaurant groups that started off hot from that era, Underbelly Hospitality looks to be on its last legs.

Georgia James seems to be doing well as a high-end steakhouse but ever since Shepherd sold out and is off doing his thing with Southern Smoke and whatever else all the Underbelly concepts seem to have tailed off.

Definitely miss the OG Underbelly.

That's right.

Underbelly does seem to be circling the drain as well.

Ken Bridge is another one. He had a ton of irons in the fire for a spell. Seems like his locations are dwindling.

I went to Lola the other day for the first time in five years or so, and it's looking run down.

Underbelly Burger is good but close to $20 for a burger combo WTF.

I'd like to try Wild Oats or whatever the other restaurant at the farmers market but $40 for CFS is wild.

Thats only $3 more than a burger combo at Fuddruckers. I've never had Underbelly Burger but its sadly not surprising its $20 for a burger combo.

You're not gonna get the chance.

Wild Oats left the Farmers Market last year I think and "moved" to Spring Branch. Little fuzzy on the timing but feels like a yearish.

They've either already closed the doors or about to.

It's a shame as Wild Oats was one of my favorite places in town. Just a bad location in that Farmers Market and Westview and Witte.

Can't imagine running a restaurant. It's a whole lot tighter than people think. Especially the high end stuff. A couple of bad weeks and you get in a bind real quick.

$20 for a good burger seems to be pretty close to the norm these days, outside of fast food. And fast food is catching up.

Yes, but Underbelly Burger was good but not that substantial in size. If I'm paying $20 I want more than a 1/3 lb patty.

Speaking of local burgers...has anyone tired Berg's new spot at MKT (Buttermilk Baby)?

We tried to check it out on Sunday at lunch and there must have been 100 people waiting outside.

OK, I need to just go back and enjoy myself. This looks F'in good that I'd choose a beer better than hipster bud light. Menu says $12 for the base burger, combo is add $5, and since I've liberated myself from pressure tipping and click NO TIP when I order standing up so I'll get out under $20.

I'm spoiled w/ Hubcap.

I haven't and didn't know it was a Berg spot so I probably won't ever make it. Loro isn't bad.

Buttermilk Baby finally opened? Was wondering when it was finally gonna do that. Feel like I've been walking by it for a year.

Didn't realize it was a Berg joint either.

Lee Ellis croaked last year - bailed up to round top for a while and did BBQ & Ellis Hotel

He was involved in OG BRC, first iteration of liberty kitchen & petite sweets … then did State Fare & lees chicken & donuts before the sell off

Yeah Lee Ellis was very talented at creating great concepts with great food that were super poular and then getting the f out at the top. He did it over and over again. I know some people had issues with him - but I always liked him and thought he was a good dude.

They all look very nice I just always feel the value proposition isn't what I'd like.

That explains why I like Loro, thought it was a Berg spot.
