If you include being British as a special need, all eight of the top schools are special-needs schools

I'm assuming that parents get some sort of assistance to pay $50k+ a year for those schools? That's crazy and seems to go against the purpose of helping out kids with special needs.

Some insurance companies will reimburse for autism therapy. At least that's how it was 7-8 years ago.

those schools are expensive as hell. not really sure why it "goes against the purpose" though.

I guess I see the purpose as more of a noble and charitable calling to help those less fortunate. Making the cost of that unattainable to everyone except the very rich seems to go against that purpose. IMO.

I would imagine they have scholarships, but they're not marketed as or intended to be charities.

2 kids from first thru high school at 30k per year, even with modest returns is in the neighborhood of a million bucks. F me. Makes waking up early to commute before traffic not seem so bad.

Jesuit wasn't anywhere close to that back in my day. But, we also didn't have ac in the football locker room and the weight room was little more than an garage with free weights and a big box fan.

We also had swim practice at a community pool down the street. I think it was around $9k a year in the early 2000s. My dad could tell you for sure what it was. Probably to the penny. Lol.

It seems odd they would include Monarch. I had never heard of it, but it appears to be exclusively for those with disabilities such as autism.

Not really the same situation as the others on the list.

A friend has 3 kids, all private, and one went to a school for kids with autism. He said that tuition was more than than other two combined.

I'm 50-100k. One friend is 30-50k. Don't know anyone yet who has received it.

Awarded several hundred thousand dollars in lifetime benefits a month after I move out of state award.

they have a system that flags folks that move out of state and automatically takes them off the wait list.

Petty, but they get a good laugh out of it.

Sounds about right considering this came one week after I transferred my driver license and vehicle registration.

Been interesting watching the vouchers from the sidelines.

We are now 3 applications submitted for 2027-2028 school year, 2 more to go.

The HISD takeover ends June 2027, but it doesnt sound like the board gets elected power back for a couple of years. I have no clue how this will affect public, private, applications etc but what a crap show it has been.
