Driver was going the wrong way and killed another driver at the top of the hump at W. 7th.

Police said a woman driving an SUV was going the wrong way on Shepherd when she slammed into another car head on. The man in the white car was pronounced dead at the scene.

This is why I always ride the far-right lane there.

Damn! I see people turning (or almost turning) left onto Shepherd from 11th westbound all the time - but there's usually enough cars there to make it obvious it's one way and they correct quickly.

That's scary. I've come over that hill before in daytime and have seen a car going the wrong way twice. Think they're coming out from the parking lot where Athetik gym is at

The wrong-way driver needs to be prosecuted for this. Between the speeding and the red light running in this city driving feels more dangerous than it used to be.

Also curious if either/both were speeding, I was just there around lunch and people were flying by me as I was doing 38.... For everyone who *****es about the speedtraps there and at TC Jester....

Yep, that used to be my daily route. Have seen at least a handful of cars going wrong way on that street over the years. Usually around that industrial center with the big gym. Or coming out of Kroger shopping center.

Don't get me wrong, she's absolutely in the wrong and I agree with the other poster she should be prosecuted whether she was drunk or not.

And if she was intoxicated then I'd assume more likely she was speeding. Which could also explain her being fine and the victim passing away.

Great. I drive the hump a few times a week, usually at night, after picking up my daughter from gymnastics. Didn't realize that I was risking our lives.

I come out at 6th where the Mkt parking lot is and hang a u over the hump through the Big Lots parking lot to get back to 10. I guess at night it may actually be safer because there are always lights going in the right direction.

She must have been intoxicated. A sober person would notice the intersections they were going through didn't have traffic lights facing their direction.

WTF, several of those blocks are down to 2 lanes.

Also seen lots of wrong way folks, but they usually realize quickly & turn into a parking lot.

Last week I was headed West on 11th at the Shepherd intersection and saw an Eastbound driver turn right onto Shepherd right there at the gas pumps.

There was a car coming up in the left lane that luckily could hit the brakes and honk.

Not 10 seconds later saw someone pull out of the shopping center with the crawfish place and actually turn left and started rolling down Shepherd for a few yards before realizing it and darted into the Kroger shopping center.

Have to keep your head on a swivel for the drunks, broads, and stupids in that area.

The crazy pedestrian crossing right past the Tommie Vaughn Fleet office is also nuts. Someone is going to be run over running across the street there. The signal isn't clear and folks that don't drive there often don't realize it is a pedestrian crossing.

Interesting. If they want a crosswalk, it needs to be a traffic light. It is a very confusing crossing.

Pretty sure if someone presses to cross then it flashes red, but maybe not.

Either way, if someone is waiting to enter a crosswalk it means stop. We make way too many excuses for terrible damn drivers.

This is correct. When someone at the crosswalk presses the button, the overhead lights go to red. Pretty hard to misinterpret that, even if you've never seen a HAWK signal before.

I used to live off of shepherd/Durham and I can't tell you the number of times I beep beeped at someone about to or who did get mixed up and head the wrong way on one of them.
