A friend suggested this for anti-theft. It looks old but I bet it works well

I second it. 2nd truck with it on and honestly I missed not having it when I changed trucks. It became 2nd nature. Also a good piece of mind for trucks that are getting so crazy expensive.
I think the only/biggest negative of this is that it disables your auto start.....

Living in Houston, is that worth the still relatively low risk of having your truck stolen?

F all this noise. Truck theft is Allstates problem. Park in the driveway. The garage is reserved for the workbench, tool box, golf cart, bikes, coolers, deep freezer, beer fridge, camping and fishing gear. I am guessing you garage parkers don't do much that requires gear.
Full disclaimer.....we just moved and haven't figured out how we want to do garage storage so I'm parking in the driveway.

But the intent is absolutely that I'm going to park in the garage. But really just at night. I'll keep my truck in the driveway during the day so I have access to my tools, workbench, kids have access to bikes, etc.

Not to me it isn't. Being able to get the A/C started when it is 200 degrees in the cab far outweighs the risk of it being stolen.

Depends on everyone's risk. We were traveling and pulling our camper so knowing that my truck would always be there was worth it. The 250 did not fit in the garage so it being out all night was why I initially got it. If it was hot or cold and I wanted to remote start I would send my kid out to put it in and remote start it.

Damn, bro you must be such a badass. Were you pissed when central air conditioning was invented?
maroon barchetta
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I don't have remote start. I roll the windows down in the summer, crank the a/c, start driving to blow the hot air out, and then roll the windows up and let it cool down in the cab.

It's ok. It doesn't have to be 67 degrees when I get in.
Captain Winky

Sounds like you're just too poor to afford remote start.

My wife's vehicle has it. It's fine. I'm not a snowflake so I won't melt without it.

Go fart into your air conditioned seats.

I don't have air conditioned seats, but can manufactures bring back the ball cooler vent under the steering wheel?

I would like that.

I wonder if the thieves are ripping out the computers and replacing them with ones that already have keys programmed.

That was the story on the F150 forums for other thefts - they pull the dash apart and swap it out with a different BCM.

That's all. Now, everyone, return to your ventilated seat and garage utilization discussion.

I am in a Facebook group "Houston Stolen Trucks and Cars". Kind of crazy how many GM trucks get stolen. Sometimes multiple in a single day. In videos you can see the thieves just drive off in a few minutes. Lexus and the occasional Kias also get mentioned sometimes. Some trucks end up in Mexico. Which I find interesting that there is lax checking at the border.

Buy a Nissan Altima with paper tags, never have to worry about your car being stolen again.

Pretty sure you can't get ventilated seats that aren't also heated. You can get heated that aren't ventilated though.

If someone wants to steal my car, I'll find out. The only thing I want to change about my car is that the seats aren't heated. I miss that so much.

I haven't shopped for a new car in a decade.

Greedy ass suburban builders don't help. 3k SF house, and here is a garage fit for 2 mini coopers and a small work station.
You get what you pay for. Bigger garage…higher purchase price. The builder isn't going to eat the cost.

Place your keys in a box or move them far away from the front of the house.

My post has more stars, by orders of magnitude. I meant no offense against your husband, or any other builders/developers. Seems like a ton of newer homes, even bigger ones, are just spit out with tight/undersized garages.

I'm very much a dude, and a "greedy ass suburban builder".

I agree, larger garages are nice, I'm a big fan of 3 car ones...but putting in a large one will cause the price of the home to go up. Nobody is being "greedy" by not making them larger, it's all market driven. 22' wide garages with 20' wide doors have been the basic standard for decades.

Both posts were mostly in jest. But it is funny driving through Bridgeland or Townlake, I would estimate the vast majority either use their garage for just one car or for storage/recreation. I miss the standard garages we grew up with in Spring Branch in the 80's and 90's. They seemed noticeably bigger...but then again, maybe I was just smaller.

Gotcha. Yep the detached garages were larger since you needed room on the side for the access door. The market has really shifted away from them over the last decade in an effort to keep costs down...the long driveways are $$$

What we need to bring back is detached garages. Those things are the S.

Can't thieves hack your garage door opener now?

In typical Texags fashion, this thread has devolved into a D measuring contest of people's garage organization skills.

The hacking/cloning tool is very easy to find online. Amazon was forced to quit selling them, but not other sites.

It can clone key fobs, garage door openers, credit cards, card readers (like on secure buildings like schools, government buildings, offices) and a bunch of other things.

YouTube video that explains the relay attack method

Can the battery be removed from the FOB? I'd use the mechanical key to open door & start car the old-school way.

I use these. I have put them in the car with the fob in it and it would not detect the key.
