When I used to live in the city, my truck was broken into at least twice a year. I made it a habit to always leave my doors unlock to avoid my windows from getting broken out. I have been in the 'burbs for 3 years, a really nice master community plan neighborhood and now my AT4 was stolen from my driveway.... go figure.

At 4:20am, a small white cars pulls up in front of my house, one guys steps out and walks to my truck. Bends down in front of my grill with a flashlight and does something (maybe cuts a wire). Then walks around, opens the door and 30 seconds later, starts it up and drives off. Immediately after my truck, they drove one section over and stole a Yukon as well and drive away, 3 guys total. My truck is push-start so the criminals must be techy on how they are stealing vehicles nowadays.

Anyways, what are y'al using for anti-theft?

They've learned how to clone key fobs. They drive around and can scan from the street.

We have gate on our driveway

Sorry that this happened to you. Crime travels in Houston. Too late now, but parking in your garage can help. At4 might be too long for some garages though.

The effective things to do would be installing a separate horn that's wiring is not accessible through the grille, a cage/box around the PCM, and a kill switch or two.

My 06 was stolen in August and it's not getting replaced with a GM truck. Judging from what I've seen, I'd say at least 90% of the trucks/SUVs stolen in Houston are GM.

Auto theft and vandalism just shifts around. What I can think of from the last 10 years in no particular order:

1. Toyota Cats
2. GM / Chevy Trucks and SUVs
3. GM / Chevy wheels
4. F150 Tailgates
5. F150 tail lights
6. Honda wheels
7. Kia / Hyundai cars

Drive a minivan and you're likely fine.

I park both our cars in a garage. Can't believe how many people don't use their garages anymore except for storage or as another room of the house.

Eventually the coyotes will target minivans so they can carry more illegals in one trip.

Everyone with keyless entry/push to start should be keeping their keys in a faraday bag/box inside their house to prevent remote scan/clone.

Their inexpensive on Amazon. Get a name brand not the Chinese no name

My wife and I have a pact that we always have to be able to keep both cars in our garage. If we get to a point we can't we have to reorganize and get rid of stuff.

Most perplexing to me is the number of people with three car garages in my neighborhood where none of their cars make it into the garage. You've got a 3-5k sqft house and have too much crap to fit cars in the garage.

Man, I'm so tired of seeing these threads. Not because people are posting them, but because this is happening so much.

I empathize all you guys that have this happen. I feel like I've just been lucky and play russian roulette every night with my truck. It being old and dingy helps a little.

Bought a house and my truck doesn't fit in the garage (guess I'm an idiot)

Won't replace the truck until I eventually move to a house with a deeper garage

I park both our vehicles in the garage overnight. My house is on a corner with a street lamp out front, and is located off a cut-through road with high visibility. But I don't want to depend on that to keep thieves from taking my property.

Sorry that happened to you.

Yeah, my truck barely fits in my garage. And if it's parked in there, the rest of the garage is basically unusable.

F all this noise. Truck theft is Allstates problem. Park in the driveway. The garage is reserved for the workbench, tool box, golf cart, bikes, coolers, deep freezer, beer fridge, camping and fishing gear. I am guessing you garage parkers don't do much that requires gear.

My garage contents...8 bicycles (2 for me, 1 for wife, 1 each for the 10 and 8 year old, and a small one that the 5 year old just out grew, the middle bike he's now on, and the 8 year old's old one that he'll move up to later), 3 razr scooters, Razr electric 4 wheeler, Razr electric motorcycle, full size fridge, chest freezer, full sized toolbox, Blackstone when not in use, work bench, and giant shelving unit from Costco with all sorts of chit on it from sports equipment and jack stands to folding chairs and the middle 2nd row middle seat of the Odyssey. Still able to get an Accord and Odysseus in there no problem. Just need to organize well, utilize the walls with fastracks, and hang stuff/bikes that are rarely used from the ceiling.

I have 2 horns on mine, they unhooked both wires. Then they break the glass, rip out the glove compartment to access the computer, reprogram the access code with the computer and ghost key.

It took them 3 tries to get mine and I think the only reason they got the 3rd try was bc I had a weird feeling so I hit the locks using my UConnect app. Think it gave them the code.

Luckily hpd undercover theft unit was already following them. I had to Uber at 1am from downtown to Spring to get it back that night. They had 3 other cars too. When the patrol car that pulled them over walked up, the thief asked if it was a felony bc it wasnt his jeep before the officer said anything.

Greedy ass suburban builders don't help. 3k SF house, and here is a garage fit for 2 mini coopers and a small work station.

At least we are letting in thousands of poor desperate military aged males every day in this state. Hopefully that will help the stem the surge in auto thefts, right?

I was asking a question. Not criticizing.

Should I be putting both types of "keys" in a box when home?

While it is the insurance company's problem, it is also the owner's problem as the owner suddenly has no vehicle.

I have a big garage with 3 bays, although one is not usable for parking vehicles since it wasn't built out that way by whoever initially built my house back in the 90s. In the 2 parking bays, I have big shelving units along the front walls to keep all our camping equipment. On the ceiling above where we park my wife's minivan I have hooks for our 3 bikes. Yard tools on peg boards along one wall. Trash cans (Cinco Ranch has a stick up their ass about leaving cans in public view) also go along that front wall. In our non-parking 3rd bay, I have my workshop - I built a custom L-shaped workbench mounted to the studs in the walls with shelving above, a 32" TV so I can watch football while working on a garage project. There is a full-size refrigerator, 3 Craftsman rolling toolboxes, 2 more shelving units like I have along the front wall of the garage, shop-vac, yard equipment like mower, edger, etc, a band saw on a stand, a table saw, and another workbench that I bought at Sears years ago.

One of these days we're going to sell this house, and I'm going to miss the hell out of that garage.

I didnt think you were criticizing, was just telling my story

I would definitely keep them locked up. I cant remember if it was this board or the OB where a video showed a guy walk up to the front door with an antenna while others were breaking into the car

I'm afraid this would just result in a bunch of law-abiding vehicle owners being prosecuted, convicted and jailed.
