If you don't have HD radio, might be time to look into a new ride. That 04 Corolla has served you well, now let it go.

I've got a 2022 GMC AT4 and it doesn't have HD radio.

Apparently GMC decided their newer models didn't need it.

Sad day, 97.1 was my go-to when I listened to the radio in my truck (rarelY) and was my garage radio station.

Who needs HD radio when you have a 6 Disc CD changer like my 08 F150

If you are still listening to AM/FM radio in your car, you're old and its probably time take your nap.

Terrible news. bye-bye Ronnie Milsap, Randy Travis, John Anderson, Alabama, Oakridge Boys, Willie Nelson...

...but a good day for a Rangers fan since Opening Day of 1972!

My commute is 4 minutes. I can take a nap whenever I want.

Listened to 92.9 a little today. Heard that song by Jellyroll, which I don't mind.

But they are playing something by Morgan Wallen now. More often than not, I switched the station to 97.1 specifically to avoid the trash he tries to pass off as music.

92.9 is def not Country Legends.

The legends is 92.9 HD 2. Regular (new school country) is 92.9 HD 1

This sucks. 97.1 was the only safe space from Luke Bryan on terrestrial radio in this town. Now it's like dust in the wind.

I don't have a commute so for anything under 30 minutes I'm totally fine listening to terrestrial radio rather syncing up my phone. Plus, I kind of like bouncing channels.

I'm seriously thinking about an HD radio for my 15 year old ride just for Country Legends.

I DIYed the install with a backup camera, though it was a bigger project than expected. Great unit.

Fort Worth has a station that is dedicated to red dirt and Texas Country Artist. 95.9 The Ranch. It is such a shame that the Houston Market has nothing like this at all. They promote artist and shows in the area as well. I hate to say that DFW has a better market for artists and music but it's the truth and I hate all things Metroplex related.
Has The Ranch gone back to more Texas/Red Dirt country? I moved to Fort Worth in 2006 and 95.9 was my 97.1 up there. They were wonderful for playing and promoting the Texas/Red Dirt scene. It was a great part of living in Fort Worth.

When I moved back to Houston in 2012 I still streamed them quite a bit but they started deviating into more folk and Americana compared to what I would call true Texas/Red Dirt. Lots of obscure artists rather than the Texas/Red Dirt staples most of the time.

I feel like Shane Hollinger was the guy pushing it.

I haven't streamed it in a good 5+ years but it was an awesome station at one point.

I not ashamed to admit that I did not know HD radio is a thing until this thread. I just learned I have an HD radio - now I just have to figure out how to change it from 1 to 2.

Country Legends is back in business on my radio! Thanks TexAgs!

I was on Crutchfield last night looking at units. I just upgraded mine about 4 years ago to get Apple CarPlay so I'm pretty familiar with the process.

That unit doesn't fit my truck though.

I was on the couch last night while my wife watched Below Deck. She looked at my screen and asked why I was looking at radios for my truck.

I explained how 97.1 was no longer available in my truck. She then said she'd give me her XM login so I can listen to Prime Country like I force her to do when I'm driving her car. Not precisely what she said but I know what she meant.

I told her to press pause on Below Deck and then told her they're not exactly the same and the emotional attachment I have to 97.1. Country Legends is superior to XM Prime Country.

Still waiting to see if the Budge Committee will approve a new radio for my ride or it's gonna go to Santa for consideration.

I drive an '06 Ford van. I like to switch back and forth between 106.9, The Spot, and 97.1. When there are no good songs, I toggle between the 4 sports talk stations 97.5, 610, 650, and 790. Today was a glorious day, as all 4 stations were talking about the Texans non-stop.

This will be hard to explain over a thread, but I'll do my best.

You should have a tune button or nob. Go to 9.29 and let the HD radio load a bit. You can then turn or press the button/nob once and it'll switch to 9.29 - 2.

Thanks! I had figured it out when I posted. I have a few buttons, but my radio is a touch-screen and mostly operates that way. I toggled the HD option to on, and a little HD icon popped up on the screen. I tapped that and it brought up all the options for each station.

The car is a 2015, and I got it from my mother who didn't install anything remotely "tech". I'm lucky it has a radio.

This inspired me to play around with the radio some more. I finally connected my iphone via bluetooth (my mother always said she "didn't get the phone option", so I just didn't bother). The radio thinks my iphone is an MP-3 player, but it works.

Also 106.9 HD-2 appears to be a decent channel.

106.9 is cool stuff. Not an every day thing for me, but some MoTown, some other 70's stuff you rarely hear. Good alternative.

96.5 -2 is hard rock. Hard to listen to due to all kinds of self advertising and stupid trivia, but when they play music, it rocks.

Huh - my radio says "no HD sub channels available" on the screen when I check for 96.5.

for the newbies to HD radio:

100.3 HD-3 = new red dirt/Texas country
92.9 HD-3 = old red dirt/Texas country

There was a solid Texas country station out of Hempstead until not too long ago (Texas Mix 105.3) that you could pick up on the west side of Houston. Then an Asian language station out of Houston crowded out their broadcast signal.

Yup this was the staple of my college years after 95.7 KIKK went off the air in the early 00s

Yup and very few ads. I pretty much listen to these two stations exclusively.

Not country, but I still remember the letters KODA out of Houston. Basically elevator music. My dad would tune that on his Heath Kit about 2 or 3 afternoons a year, max, and neverplayed anything else. We were not a musical family. I made up for it after I left for college.

I dropped 97.1 from my presets in the truck the week they fired the morning DJs that had been there for what seemed like forever.

I listen to the HD stations a lot and love how they have less commercials, but the 92.9.2 station comes across soft or almost monotone, no issues with 92.9.3 or 100.3.2, which are great for Texas County. Anyone else have this issue?

Fired up the 95.9 Ranch app this morning and all of the Steamboat Musicfest promos are giving me FOMO.

Some here mentioned that 97.1 played the same songs over and over. I have a long commute each day, and it was not uncommon to hear the same song(s) on the morning and afternoon drives. I tried on several occasions to contact them about this, but never heard anything back. Having said that, I am lost right now and am fishing around for another station. They started advertising their HD station several months ago. I guess this was their way of telling us that changes were coming.

Yes. The two HD stations I now have saved are much quieter. If I turn the volume up to where I like it and then switch over to one the non-HD stations, I get blasted and have to turn the volume down. There seems to be the biggest delta between 92.9 and 106.9.

Willie's Roadhouse on SXM is my saving grace behind the wheel. They played "Peel Me a 'Nanner" last weekend. My dad used to sing the chorus of that song to make my sister and me laugh when I was a kid. I always thought it was something he or someone else in the family made up along the way. Imagine my surprise when I saw the name of the song pop up on the screen.
