After the debacle with Hardy I was bummed to see Hank Williams Jr encourage the crowd to sing "to get l**d". I guess that's the rodeo's way of letting us know they don't want kids attending anymore. Message received.

He has some fault for agreeing when he knew he didn't have the sound or the draw for a primary stage, big time performance.

GTFO

If someone asks you to play the biggest show of your life you take it. And that's not his fault.

You think a baseball player getting a call up to the big leagues would ever say 'You know what I don't think I'm quite ready yet I rather just chill here in the minors and work some things out for a while'.

I'm sure season ticket holders will Jack up the attendance but would be interesting to see a guess of actual butts in seats.
So you're saying it wasn't a "Largest Crowd Ever for 2nd Tuesday Under a Crescent Moon" rodeo crowd - or whatever other category they make up to have the largest crowd ever moment nearly every time I've ever been.

If your kid is old enough to stay up for the rodeo concert, they are probably old enough to know the the phrase "get laid."

Well…..Look up the lyrics. That part is in no way part of the song. He was encouraging the crowd to yell that part in a call and response.

Have you never heard the song played anywhere with a crowd? Sure "to get drunk" "to get high" and "to get laid" may not officially be in the lyrics turned into the publishing house but I've never heard the song sung without them.

You can scroll down and read it even though it has that pop up blocking it. Their review was very positive.

Someone has never been in the chicken when that song comes on.

From the HC (a favorable review)...
Quote:

That out-of-nowhere success was probably why RodeoHouston organizers, who book acts months in advance, jumped at the chance to get Anthony, who performed Monday night. But he's yet to release a full-length album, and country music fans still swear by radio, where Anthony has yet to break through.

That explains the crowd of 49,219, a low number even for a weeknight. That's less than retro soul singer Leon Bridges in 2018, who drew 51,870 for a much-criticized Black Heritage Day performance.

None of that of course is Anthony's fault. He's just making the most of his moment. And for those who stuck around, it was a solid debut.

Quote:

Anthony's songs are spare and striking, with lyrics that ruminate on home, history and family. His hourlong set started with "Mama's Been Hurtin'" and "Rich Man's Gold." Then, he could breathe.

"I made it through two songs without peeing myself, so I might actually make it through this," he joked.
Quote:

His voice is a powerful tool. It pierces the air, unvarnished and dense. You can almost feel the weight of its delivery. It was the best-sounding show so far of the season.

Quote:

He saved "Rich Men North of Richmond" for the finale, and it expectedly drew the loudest cheers. But it's just a piece of Anthony's musical makeup. Maybe he'd be better-suited to a smaller venue. But it's to his credit that he made RodeoHouston feel like an intimate space for a performer and his crowd.

Performers have griped before about the set up and feeling disconnected from the audience. This says a a lot about him and his ability if he was able to handle it all and make it feel that way.

Come on... life and raising kids is hard enough without you help it!

It's not the rodeos fault nor some kind of sign from the chairman that families are no longer wanted. If you were going to be offended by the f bomb then you should not have gone to watch Hardy. 10 minutes of skipping through his music would make that obvious. Hank saying "get laid" should have been on everyone's bingo card! Again your fault if you thought otherwise.

I don't have an issue with the language. People my age were used to our parents and other adults using that kind of language, and people smoking, and no one wearing helmets, and no one worrying about feelings and we all turned out alright.

My wife and I were just discussing language in music because we have little ones and she wanted to play a song and forgot it had some bad words in it. So she went searching for the edited version. My opinion, I'd rather the kids hear the bad word and be taught not to say it, there are some things grown ups can do that kids can't. In lieu of what they do get away with in music these days, where if the bleep a 4 letter word, they can keep their radio status even though the song is full of innuendo and other topics that a kid may ask about.

I thought Jelly Roll was great last night. I didn't really know much about him before getting tickets for free then going down a YouTube rabbit hole, but after thoroughly enjoying that performance, I'm a fan now.

He was genuinely excited to be there. He had a moment where he almost choked up at the spectacle of it all when he shared it's the largest crowd he's ever played in front of. The man just stood there and soaked it in after expressing his gratitude for all of it.

Cody Johnson was never going to come this year. He said last year that he was going to take a year or 2 off from playing the rodeo.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think there is some sort of stipulation where they couldn't have played a concert in HTown within 6 months of the rodeo. I believe Cody had done that. Which is why I don't think they were able to bring Pardi back since he played here before the National Championship

I has always heard that was the case, and maybe it's different for the Christian act each year, but I know For King & Country just played Toyota Center in December and then the rodeo last week.

There is something but his only Houston show was the Rodeo last year.

I'm looking for a family friendly concert to take my kids to. Anybody have any Bun B tickets for the 12th? I'm sure Too Short or the Ying Yang Twins can be counted on to keep it PG.
