I thought REK was done.
Done touring.

I like the line-up and often feel the SA lineup is better than HOU, but guess I'm getting old. CO 05

What's the story on this disclaimer on the bottom of the SALR website:

Quote:

* This event is not an official PRCA Rodeo. We will still be providing Rodeo Entertainment in the form of competition and showmanship prior to your concert experience.

How come it's not a PRCA event?

Ranch Rodeo, Xtreme Bulls, and Noche del Vaquero (all indicated by the *) are not PRCA sanctioned events. The remaining days are part of the PRCA sanctioned rodeo.

It reminds me of Houston Rodeo lineups from 15 years ago
how so?
It reminds me of when the Houston Rodeo was going through its 80s legacy rock phase in the late 00's. Big and Rich/Gretchen Wilson were big 15 years ago and I see a whole other group of names I havent seen since my dad showed me a list of Rodeo dates he can get free tickets to from vendors.

The SA rodeo can get away with less mainstream acts because they don't have to sell anywhere near as many tickets. Their arena tops out at around 18k seats.

Shane Smith/Randy Rogers/Charley Crockett are great, but they aren't putting 70k+ people in the seats.

Ashley McBryde didn't put 70k+ people in seats last year. Couldn't even give those tickets away.

They had an attendance of 1.5M last year. That's not small potatoes for San Antonio considering Houston had 2.4M.

That's grounds attendance, not the actual rodeo.

Even if the SA rodeo had a sellout crowd for every single show, HLSR still beats their total rodeo attendance in the first week. Just the difference between having it in a basketball arena compared to a football stadium.

Really thought San Antonio rodeo would have more than 1 tejano night.

And I think 'popular 15 years ago' is about 10 years too few for quite a few of the artists listed. Wouldn't mind seeing Midland, Mike and the Moonpies or Shane Smith.

mike and the moonpies, shane smith, charley crockett, william beckman, etc are all current bands that....slap...?

and 90's country will live forever.

Wasn't HLSR dropped from PRCA for a couple years? Or was that just extreme bulls?

Took my daughter last year. Because we were in a suite. Left at lights out.

So did so many other people.

I wasn't at that one, but heard it set some records for worst attendance. I was at Leon Bridges a few years back and that was definitely the worst attendance I've seen personally. You would think the rodeo would have a little better pulse on who can fill a stadium.

If I remember correctly, Leon was boycotted because a certain group didn't feel he was "black enough" for Black Heritage Night. Which is a shame because he is really good.

Ashley McBryde was rough though, I was finally able to give my tickets away, but couldn't sell them.

They are announcing the first half of performers tomorrow morning.
If they announce Jelly Roll on either this week's or next week's announcement, I am going to that one.
I am bored by the same ones that come every year.
