Please help. Need a pool chiller badly. Water is 100 degrees.
Cheers.

Heater chiller combo preferable. Will buy used from you too.

I can't keep having ice blocks delivered here.

Wait....that's a thing?? We lost all our big shade trees over the last couple of years. (Water oaks that either blew over in storms or I guess just got so old they started rotting from the inside). We now have no shade on our pool and I absolutely hate it.

Is there a contraption that can cool a 38,000 gallon pool, or is that more for the smaller pools?

It's real bro. Resort pools are chilled to 81 degrees. Probably more than 38K gallons.

I plan to get one next year. We can help cool it a bit by running filter and waterfalls, including the night before parties. Basically the water flowing through air has a natural water cooling effect. But it's not perfect and next year I plan to invest in a heater and chiller combo.

Name dropping two Memorial Villages in the OP and the Houstonian in the follow-up. Solid trolling effort.

Does it use an insane amount of electricity? My bills already get up to $600/mo during the summer. If it's the equivalent of adding an AC unit to my pool.....I'd rather just not use the pool.

The sprayer on the pool at the Forest Club was out earlier this summer and the pool felt like a.warm bathtub. Yesterday, it was back up and running and the pool was significantly cooler.

Then referencing 'my lol poor pool'.

We got one two summers ago and it is fan-freakin-tastic.

I was worried that it wouldn't be noticeably effective because a) Houston and b) our pool gets 10+ hours of direct sun. But it kicks ASS. Worth every cent as pool was really not enjoyable in July/August when it was WARMER than bath water.

During the summer I run it every night and it keeps it at a nice 'Comal River 78-degrees'. Takes your breath away when you first get in, but soooooo nice in August…

Everest Pool Company did mine and I can't recommend them highly enough. Leo is a great guy. His contact is (713) 339-0491

Old house had a pool and always wanted.

We swam at neighbor's house the other day and with the drought and the heat their pool was easily 100 degrees. Just awful.

If I ever build a pool at the new place, which is a possibility, it will be a must-have.

Can you give a ballpar for what the chiller addition cost?

Glacier brand pool chillers seem to be highly rated and depending on pool size run anywhere from $2-$7K plus installation.

It was around $4,500 for everything (chiller, pad, and installation).

I think someone asked above, but do you see a heavy spike in elec costs when you run it? Seems pool equipment runs more efficiently now than in the past.

They have charts on their website showing what it costs to run the Glaciers.

We just moved in our new house a month ago, but that's one of the first things we did. My husband bought one online & had it shipped - iirc it was about $3500. Leslie's installed (they were the cheapest we could find in baytown) for I think $700 and electrician to then hook it up was $800 but they had to put in a new breaker in the box & run the wires through the attic. Might be cheaper if you still have space in the breaker box.

ETA it's a smaller pool, I think 20,000 gal, and so far the lowest we've seen the temp in the afternoons is 88. Which is still pleasant compared to the 100 it was before. No shade, but we're gonna put up a sail thing. We also put a canopy over the pump/chiller to keep the sun off it - i think that helps too.

We priced it last year, also through Leslie's or a similar large retailer like that, and it was roughly $4k for heater and chiller combo. Not horrible.

We have an AquaCal heater/chiller and it's a piece of ***** Basically, a $5000 paper weight that neither heats nor chills effectively and when it is turned on and running, our meter looks like the electric meter at the Griswold's house on Christmas Vacation.

I made fountain sprayers that connect to my pool returns and run them at night. Pool is in direct sun all day until 7pm. Using the sprayers drops the pool temp by 3-4 degrees; usually my water temp is 10 degrees cooler than air temp.

This summer pool temp has been 92 degrees at the hottest point after using them. Last summer was around 90 degrees. When I use the sprayers the ph levels increase faster so more acid has to be added than usual.

no, not terrible. I had a contractor that works with my wife's interior design company throw out $2,500 to me, without really even doing any examination of my pool. That sounded low to me, but maybe not too far off.

OP, you just need a change in perspective. you now have a 10,000 gallon water heater. Just think of the carbon credits you can sell!

Y'all aren't thinking high end enough.

The only pool chiller that won't upset your chemicals or your electric bill is a geothermal loop in the ground.

T&Ps to the budget.

Hey Ghost, what brand chiller did they install? I am looking at doing the same and getting an automation system put in. My pool is sitting at a nice 96 degrees right now. We haven't been in it at all since the beginning of June. I have been looking at the Glaciers that TarponChaser mentioned.

Brand is 'AquaCal'. Same as the guy above who said his is a "$5k paperweight". Hard to believe, as we swam in 78-degree water today and could've lowered it even further if we wanted, but then we get complaints that it's "too cold".

Believe it or not. I ran the thing for 5 straight days a week after having it installed last year so we could get in the pool around thanksgiving. It took the temp from 70 to 74 in those 5 days running 24 hours a day.

I'm wondering if you got a lemon, bro. Or maybe they installed it wrong or something?

I feel like I could make an ice-skating rink out of our pool if I wanted to. And again, ours is 30k gallons and zero shade. Our chiller has just been a miracle.

I can't fathom paying $5k for something that doesn't work and doing nothing about it.
