I have gotten into tar the last two times I have been to Crystal Beach this summer. It is crazy how much there is. I am thinking it's gotta be natural seeps, bc surely we would have heard about some type of significant oil spill?

Baby oil worked like a charm this last weekend tho....I wouldn't head to the beach without it.

Just got back from Galveston island state park. No tar.

You might've just been lucky, I'm right down the road from your and I've gotten tarred several times now. It's not crazy tar everywhere but I've managed to step in a little.

We were there a few weeks ago. The restaurant was closed for remodeling, but was supposed be open by 7/4.

They weren't super diligent about checking wristbands. Carry a bunch of **** in, so that you can't open the gate. See if someone opens it.

Also, the lazy river was being re-landscaped. That gate was open the whole week we were there.

Haven't heard anything about the restaurant although they had real food go go (meaning shrimp tacos and things like that). The latest thing was, they're reopening the bar in a week.

I dunno why that place has so much trouble. I guess the profits they make in the summer aren't enough to offset the losses in the other 3 seasons, even with the high fees for the owners (HOA or whatever).

We had a place down there for 5 years (moved to "downtown" Galveston now). We're still good friends with the previous restaurant owners. They did just fine, but a new slew of Karen's took over the condo board down there and kicked them out. I've heard they've since been voted off. Lots of drama down there. Clearly I'm not on here that often

I'd love to know the story, I actually wouldn't mind buying a place down there one day but the one thing that's held me back is all the turnover and up and down/back and forth.

I thought last summer they finally had it figured out. The amenities were great, staff walking around taking food and drink orders, an active bar, and really good restaurant.

Then this year it's back to whatever you call this.

Surprised to hear about Karen's, while we were there, several people were vaping at the pool openly (including staff), nobody checking wristbands, etc.

Yeah, I can't believe they would run off Aimee and company. They were the best thing to ever happen to the Beach Club.

Was there last night, bar area feels bigger but they got some issues to workout for sure

Just got back today from hiking Mount Elbert and Mount Massive. Also have a house at Crystal Beach. Give me a 14'er any day.
