I think the homeless are an issue, but I can't think of a time they weren't there. And looking back at what downtown was in the 90s and early 00s, I think we've made some major leaps in the looks dept.

It is butt ugly. It's why I didn't go to Rice. Ironically, I've lived here since 2000. That said, I'd rather live here than Hartford any day.

The greater Houston area is bigger than Connecticut, you want to cherry pick ugly parts vs nice….our ugly is uglier and our nicer is admittedly not as nice but GFY.

Also Uconn team hotel was the Whitehall I believe. Or at least I saw the Uconn busses there. So of course that corner of downtown I would also think sucked. It isnt Disco Green or Market Square/Theatre District.

Came to comment the same. The hotel looks nice, but that side of downtown is not much else. At least they are getting rid of bus station

I didn't partake in the Final Four festivities, but I call BS on the trash.... In general, yes, Houston is trashy. People in general are ****ing *******s and litter like it isn't their problem. But, in my experience, Houston has done a really good job of cleaning for events. I do the Houston Marathon/Half every year and Discovery Green area is always clean, same for when we were out there for the Super Bowl, etc. I mean could have been the attendees were trash and just littered as they went, though.

Yesterday I saw a latino lady actually throw her kids diaper in the trash can at a walmart. Musta been an Easter miracle.
