If you're looking for a nostalgic look at the Tine, check out Apollo 10 1/2 on Netflix. We watched it this week and it was good. Some good talk about the Dome and Astroworld amongst other things.

It's great. I grew up in the clear lake NASA region during that time period. That show is my youth.

I'll watch that. Houston pre-2000's was kick ass.

Nah, too early for that. Gotta watch "Mo" for scenes from Fame City. Although I drove by Fame City this week and the water park is an apt complex now.

Agreed. I attended Ed White elementary from 77-80 so this show brought back a lot of good feelings for sure!

Every time I'd drive by waterworks I was amazed that a water park existed at such an odd location.

Graduated from Creek in 79. Moved to the area in 65 so my Dad could go to work for Lockheed at NASA. Every Dad in our street except two were NASA contractor employees

Just watched this. I am a lifelong Houston resident, growing up in Katy (KHS 91) but a lifelong NASA geek who visited JSC many times over the years, thanks to Mom… and I LIVED at Astroworld between the ages of 10-13.

Settled down here in Clear Lake, thanks to my wife, about ten years ago, just four blocks down from the Little League fields and Rocketship playground toy featured in the film… between JSC and Ellington.

That was an awesome watch… my face is sore from smiling for 90 minutes straight! Beyond the experiential relatability, just a really fun, reminder of the good things film!

That's wild, wonder if they built a lot of parks around the country like that back then.
Almost an exact replica of a park that my son played at when we lived in Torrance CA

Think they were pretty common. Just did a search for "rocketship playground" and there are tons.

Found this wiki article too:

There was one at Clear Lake Park before they knocked down the pavilion and renovated the place.

Good times there.

A lot of this was before my time, but this has to be a top 5 Houston movie (or movie about Houston) of all-time, right?

Good question. Where does it rank among these?

Interesting depiction of Astroworld. Only rides I remember from my time was the needle, the car ride, and the sky tram thing.

I don't think I've seen this on TV or thought about it since the 80s...does it actually show much of Houston in it?

How many times is Dickinson, TX featured in the film? That's the true sign of an authentic depiction of that time in the space program.

I enjoyed it a lot.
The part about Astroworld brought back a lot of memories, but made me sad.

I know Jack Black is great, but his accent just didn't fit to me.
They should have had a Texan narrate it.

Absolutely loved it. So nostalgic for a kid growing up in Houston back then. The only thing missing I thought was a trip to the rodeo.

Watched it tonight and loved it. I haven't thought about the Astro Needle or those cable cars in years.

I started watching but got called away. I'm already hooked because the opening scene is at my elementary school!

When was the Cyclone built?

In the movie, the Alpine Sleigh Ride was the big ride to rush to. For us....it was the Cyclone.

It was the mid-70's??? Maybe '76?

Correct.

I didn't remember the name of the "Alpine Sleight Ride" at all; it was just the mountain thing. Later became the Batcave.

F this. I'm out. This is just some dudes memoirs that lived down here and he didn't have any remarkable experiences. ****. I live down here and love it, but this is no story. Want my 40 minutes back.

Yeah there was no story, just a little love song to his childhood. Which is fine.

Grew up in Clear Lake during this time. My dad '65 was an engineer at NASA for 32 years, my mom taught at Ed White

I thought the movie captured my experiences very well
