I'm getting back into shooting skeet / sporting clays. It's been a few years, I used to go regularly to ASC with the friends, and I'm a member of Bayou Rifles but it's way down south. I'm looking for a group that shoots on the regular to join up with. Charity shoots are good fun. Any of y'all doing any shooting?

Local is a very relative term. Where is local to you, or does it matter?

Several of the O&G Majors host tournaments every year. NOV for example had theirs in September.

I would recommend going to one or two of these and talk to as many people as you can and you will find something.

Another option would be to call Briley's here in town and ask them. They rent the equipment to the above and would know if you talk to the right person. I would ask for the department that does the rentals.

And or maybe hit Kayla up on instagram. She does photography for Briley's and would also probably know.

Thanks for the advice. I shot with a couple guys at the TA big shoot last week and I forgot how much fun shooting clays is. I bit the bug hard again. Before covid, my wife was shooting with her company team and I'd hang out with them - but they haven't picked it back up after the pandemic ended. I'd be happy to just find someone to go out to the range with me and shoot some stuff. A casual get together of the guys on here could be fun even.

Join Greater Houston. All the competition you want out there. Great courses and facilities.

I was looking at their webpage - 5k one time fee plus 140 monthly it looks like. Looks absolutely beautiful out there but that one time fee a bit steep for my skillset right now haha.

I reckon I could go to ASC and jump in with other guys and shoot, but thought it would be fun to get a consistent group together

There are several skeet leagues that shoot on weeknights at Hot Wells, I'm sure you could get hooked up with one of them. I used to shoot with my boss in his neighborhood league and they were always looking for guys to fill out teams.

Blackwood Sporting Co. (Blackwood Sporting Co.), just southwest of Conroe, on FM 2854:

Drove by this place on a Friday AM in early October. Hundreds of cars/trucks there, as they were hosting a sporting clay event.

Pretty sure Hot Wells closed after the on-site shooting accident.

I think Hot Wells went to member only maybe? Trying to remember random rumors I heard. So when's the Houston board sporting clays get together ha

Highly recommend Blackwood if you aren't looking to go the full on membership route just yet. They have 2 different 12 station SC courses. Skeet, trap, pistol and rifle ranges. You can bring your own golf cart or buggy if you want but they have carts to rent as well.

I've been to most of the SC courses around and one thing I can say about Blackwood is that all of their equipment is typically in good shape and working (im surprised how many places just don't give a crap) and if something is wrong they're pretty quick to send an RO out to fix it.

Although if I had the scratch I'd probably go for a membership at GHSC.
