They removed the ice plant after the team left was forced out.

F*** Les Alexander.

He cost Houston an NHL expansion team in the late 90s, then forced out the Aeros, all over petty grudges.

Les never got over the fact that the Aeros owner (Chuck Watson) had operating rights to The Summitt which meant the Rockets had to pay rent to the Aeros until the Toyota Center was built.

I think this story has real legs.

Fertitta has never been serious about the NHL. But the Friedkins are loaded and have been on a serious sports buying spree.

I assume there would be no issue with Fertitta (minority owner possibly) as they are also a major Rockets sponsor.

I would love a reason to finally get into hockey. I always like watching games, but its hard to be actually committed to watching without a team. And I'm not one to adopt a team from somewhere else.

So once we get one, all in baby.

(And make the color scheme the Oilers baby blues)

Wonder how Friedkin feels about the Aeros name/logo, and how difficult it would be to get rights to it?

I feel like some of these NHL expansion teams have dropped the ball -- er, puck -- by passing over local minor-league names that had real history.

I'd buy Houston Aeros gear. What a great team name.

Gulf States Toyota. They've had exclusive multi-state distribution rights for decades.

I think it would be a big hit if they bring back the Aeros name but with oilers colors

Look up the Aeros logos, they had the blue color scheme at one point.

I love the IHL/AHL Aeros logo and the green/blue colors. Loved those teams (had season tickets).

I would go bonkers if we had an NHL franchise with the same name/logo/colors.

Considering Friedkin is a pilot, founded an organization called the Air Force Heritage Flight Foundation, and performed flying stunts for the movie Dunkirk, I'd say he would LOVE the idea of his hockey team being named the Aeros. I don't think it would be difficult at all to get the rights to it. I believe the Minnesota Wild org owns the rights and they have no use holding on to it.

I did not know all that! Bodes well for the Aeros name.

Only issue with the color scheme is that Dallas has locked down green, Victory Green, etc..

Oilers colors with Aeros would be amazing.

Not bad but there was something about the bomber coming out the puck that really made the Aeros logo pop. The star in the "O" was pretty cool, too.

I would be an inaugural season ticket holder if it happens. And it looks like it is a strong possibility, wonder how long it will take before the NHL makes the decision.

That Aeros logo is SO mid-90's. Reminds me of the Rocket face on the Rockets pajama unis.

Nonetheless, it would be AWESOME

I vote no to Carolina blue on the aeros logo. That hunter green is absolutely perfect for that logo. The blue makes the plane look washed out. The aeros logo is one of the best sports logos ever. Don't muck it up.

Can you even post on the tine board if you don't know that it's called Columbia Blue

Either way, I'm digging out all my old Aeros gear and showing up. I'm sure that 30-year old replica still fits.

Friedkin already owns AS Roma and just bought Everton. Makes sense.
