Went to Pappas barbecue today with the mission to get their burger. I have to say this is a very good burger. Maybe the best example of the traditional "Texas style" burger I've had in a long long time. Good stuff.

What is a "Texas style" burger?

I've never had the burgers at Pappas BBQ but Pappas Burgers are outstanding. I've been told by a guy who worked as a manager there that they'd take the trimmings from the prime steaks at Pappas Steakhouse to grind into their burgers.

All the veggies with mayo and/or mustard. And not a "fancy" bun or beef variety, and with a single patty. That's what I think of, anyway.

Basically a better version of a standard Whataburger.

Downtown location only serves double patties and I add grilled onions and jalapeños. Never had with bacon. Delicious, juicy burger. Thick fries are great but plenty of salt.

Glad you tried and liked yours.

Humble/Kingwood location serves double patties. You can get only one but have to ask specifically for it. Not sure about downtown.

And the Pappas BBQ burgers are better than Pappas Burger. Go figure

Beat me to it. Pappas Burger isn't bad but the Pappas BBQ burger is a different burger all together.

And yes, their fries are awesome.

That burger has been in my top 5 for a long time. It's not on the drive thru menu so you just have to know they have them.

Main St serves double patties as well. I'm pretty sure all locations do.

I stopped going to Becks years ago because I found their burgers:
1. greasy
2. over-seasoned with black pepper
3. wildly overpriced

A new burger place I discovered that has pretty good burgers is Trump Burger in Bellville (just west of Houston).

Bellville is "just west of Houston" like El Paso.
