Might as well head to Post Oak or the internet.
I just refuse to go to Memorial City. Its a miserable experience and there are zero stores worth visiting.tamuags08 said:
Memorial City ain't bad. That's our choice if we have to go to a mall in the area.

Some people seem to think that a large percentage of non-white shoppers is the same thing as "ghetto".

No. That's NOT what they mean; they are referring to the socioeconomic status of the shoppers. And the wisdom of the apparent life choices and evident spending habits. People of all races and creeds can be ghetto.
didnt they have close down the galleria once? what was the main ethnicity causing that issue?schmendeler said:combat wombat said:schmendeler said:

If someone thinks the galleria or memorial city are ghetto, they are a snowflake of the gentlest variety.

There's also Hong Kong mall on Bellaire for when you want pho, jerky, crawfish in the food court, and grocery shopping.
It's not ghetto.

So, if you look at a Venn diagram with only 2 circles, and within that Venn diagram you have racists who don't like non white people, and in the other circle you have people who don't like people from very low socio-economic classes, there will be significant overlap between the people not l8ked by the folks in those 2 circles. There will even be some overlap, some people may be in both Venn diagrams. But that doesn't mean that having issues with people of low socio economic status makes you racist and it doesn't mean that being racist means you have issues with people of low socio economic status.
To clarify, I'm happy to hang around talking with my black neighbor and happily do so for extended periods of time. No way in hell do I want to hang around with my nephew's white-trash girlfriend. It has nothing to do with skin color. But she's trashy and I don't hang out with her, gross. Oh, and for the record, it's also not because she's poor. It's because she's trashy. Its not just the economic part, its also the values part.
some here would say so, it seems.drumboy said:schmendeler said:

Sugarland is more Slumdog millionaire than "ghetto". My indian coworkers call the area Patelfair for a reason.drumboy said:schmendeler said:

The indoor part of baybrook is certainly chock full of people most on this board wouldn't spend any meaningful time with.
2006 was the last time a major new mall was constructed in the US. Free AC and heating attracts loiterers, and the loiterers tend to drive away customers. Stores can't justify high mall rent, especially with lower foot traffic, so they're fleeing malls too. Or at least going to "outdoor" malls where they can ask loiterers to leave the store. Loiterers aren't interested in hanging out outside in the heat (south) or cold (north).ATM9000 said:
Indoor shopping malls aren't being built anymore are they? They are such miserable places and always have been.

the core problem with malls: Once people thought of them as fun, entertaining places to spend an afternoon. Now, they are something to be endured if you MUST go in one.
