I heard Welch make that comment live on TV. He was about to be interviewed by someone on Channel 13, wasn't aware it was a hot mic, and definitely said "shoot the queers." Couldn't believe he said it and knew right then his campaign was dead just a few days before the election.

Well he sounds like a real prince.

He was a great guy by most accounts and had longtime impact on local government and the business community. Started out as an outsider candidate running against the machine.

With surveillance what it is now, more advanced home security, mobile phones and easier ways to locate people at basically any time, I think this stuff exists less straight up because it has got to be much harder to pull off now than it was in the 70's and 80's.

I thought I read somewhere that a big part of Ted Bundy being able to do what he did had to do with the fact that States at the time basically had no mode to nor even tried to communicate with one another when it came to missing persons and sharing persons of interest in those cases.

So I dunno... terrible to say but maybe the new serial killer is the mass shooter.

Thats a good point. I think a lot of anxiety and anger in the world is caused by peoples electronic umbilical cord.

People can cause stress remotely, anytime, anywhere.

People getting in traffic accidents because someone was blowing up their phone wanting to know where they are at.

People flying off the handle at work because of some stress inducing text or email, which 20 years ago they would have just handled when they got home.

People rushing through work projects and making mistakes because you might have 10 inquiries coming in by text, phone, email wanting to know the status of **** and people nowadays expect an immediate response.

If any younger guys are reading this and wondering how they can be single at my age, I recommend taking a pretty casual approach to phonecalls and text messages.

Whats crazy is we are in constant connection with all facets of life at the same time and in real time.

Imagine a office worker sitting at their desk, stressing out when they get a notification on their phone that their mortgage payment going up due to taxes and insurance.

This is traditionally business that would be handled at home. News would come through the mail.

Sometimes I think I could've been a perfect boyfriend in the era of rotary phones, expensive long-distance, and postcards.

In the mid-90's very few of my friends had cell phones...and a few had pagers obviously. If I couldn't connect with any of my friends on their landline to see what was going on that night, i'd literally cruise around to the usual suspect hangout spots or until I saw a caravan of broncos and K-5 blazers that could lead me to the party. Sometimes this would be hours of driving around like a creep with my head on a swivel looking for people I knew.

I miss those days.

And just in general, sometimes you had to wait by yourself and just think for long periods of time. No personal computer in your hand to entertain or distract you 24/7. If I could snap my fingers and make it 1994, or better yet, 1986, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Sounds like maybe your friends didn't want you know where they were going. I don't recall regularly driving around for hours looking for cars I recognized.

This is what I miss for my kids.

Explaining probability to math students, a common barrier today is that when faced with problems about a "standard deck of cards", kids are only vaguely familiar with the ranks, suits, etc. Even at the college level.

No family road trips stuck playing solitaire in the back of a suburban or station wagon.

Somebody should look at historical arial photos of The Heights to determine the exact location of Corll's candy factory.

It was somewhere around W 22nd street near Helms Elementary.

I'd start by looking in and around that area with ground penetrating radar or maybe some sort of seismic technology.

The stories of neighbors saying that Corll was digging holes in and around the shop to bury spoiled candy are well documented.

Also reports by neighbors of Corll pouring a lot concrete slabs around the the shop.

IMO, its more likely than not that somebody owns a townhouse with Corll victims still buried underneath it.
