Vic & Anthony's is my favorite steakhouse in Houston, but Pappa Bros and Del Frisco's are 2a and 2 b for me. Pappa Bros is about ~1.5 miles down Westheimer from the Galleria while Del Frisco's is in the Galleria. You can't go wrong with either of them.
Capital Grille and Morton's are also close by if you want to give one of those a shot. Oceainaire is a seafood place that's in the Galleria right next to Del Frisco's if you decide you want seafood.
Oh, I'll say this about the Capital Grille by the Galleria...my wife and I went there one year for our anniversary, and when they brought us our steaks, they had the temps backwards...hers was med rare while mine was medium. Since they were 2 different cuts, we couldn't just switch them. When we told them of the mistake, they literally cleared all of our food off of the table, the manager was at our table within about a minute with fresh bread and to apologize for the error. When they brought out our steaks (and fresh sides) a 2nd time, the manager was there to make sure it was cooked correctly and also had a bottle of house wine to comp us for their mistake. When we got our check, they also comped our desserts (IIRC). Neither my wife or I were upset about the mix up because we know errors happen. It was no big deal to us. But what they did when they realized they made a mistake was above and beyond, and we left knowing what their expectations for themselves were.
