More local sports radio drama

My buddy sent me that last night. Couldn't believe Innes wasn't involved.

But seriously, how ****ing childish, doubly so letting it happen on the air.

Any of yall ever thought about getting into sports radio?

I'm wondering what the entry bar is. It's hard to imagine many of these local guys sitting down for a meeting with advertisers and gaining sponsors with their winning personalities.

As of Sep 9, 2020, the average annual pay for the Sports Talk Radio jobs category in the United States is $54,949 a year.

While ZipRecruiter is seeing annual salaries as high as $89,500 and as low as $18,000, the majority of salaries within the Sports Talk Radio jobs category currently range between $41,500 (25th percentile) to $59,500 (75th percentile) across the United States. The average pay range for a Sports Talk Radio job varies little (about $18,000), which suggests that regardless of location, there are not many opportunities for increased pay or advancement, even with several years of experience.

I have a friend who now has a show in Atlanta. He basically had to work his way up from doing all the reporter and sports flash work for one of the stations, to having a small show, to finally getting a regular show in a different city.

Of course, our sports radio scene doesn't lend itself much to advancement, considering they seem to prefer to snatch up whoever was most recently let go from the other stations when they need to fill a time slot.

I don't really research these guys outside just listening.

Today is how long it's been since I realized Braddock is a white.

I figured in today's climate you have to love it enough to basically volunteer unless/until you can bring in your own sponsors. But I don't know if other cities are as saturated with local sports talk as Houston is.

Adios Jayson Braddock

It was a battle between my heart and mind whether Jayson deserved his own thread.

I'm just amazed that a potato can have an on-air job for 10 years here. Braddock is a moron who may have somehow gotten some contacts inside the Texans organization but his football knowledge was crap.

And yet he keeps ranting in that twitter thread that you have to be a white male to make it in Houston sports radio. Guy has serious mental issues.

Maybe he'll start another Go Fundme: https://www.gofundme.com/f/jayson-braddock-needs-your-help

I've actually enjoyed Innes back on the air. He fits well on 97.5, having AJ as his PD is probably a good thing.

Why don't some stations take phone calls now? I don't want to text

They probably like being able to screen through texts and tweets and just respond to the ones that make their show flow better rather than having to sit through 20 seconds of dead air while someone says "hello, can you hear me?" 3 times and then the call winds up being something not related at all to what they were talking about.

That's why it's called sports talk radio - you talk to the people - they all rehash the same topics and afraid someone will call them out if you throw real sports questions at them

I hated the Texans bought all the time to hide the coaches from talking to the people

"Am I on?"

"Yes, you're on"

"Am I on?"

"Yes, you're on"

"Am I on?"

"YES. YOU'RE ON. GO!"

"Oh, hey guys, yeah, I wanted to talk about -" (call drops).

"Bob? Are you there, Bob? I think we lost Bob."

Gotta love talk radio.

Its called sports talk because they talk to an audience about sports. Chatting with the audience is optional and usually only reserved for slow news days to kill time since they dont have 2-3 hours of content and guests planned out.

What NFL team in 2025 is going to make their coaching staff available to field questions from some Uncle Rico calling in from his "man cave" who is clearly a football savant but never got his big break to making it past coaching 9-year-old pee wee football? I'm still surprised college coaches have to put up with that bullcrap.

Fun Josh Innes story:

Yacht Rock Revue came through HoB ~ 2018 ish . I happened to bump into Josh (he's a large human) at the bar. Robbie Dupree's 'Steal Away' was blaring and we got to sing the chorus together. He probably played that jam weekly on his show. Fantastic YR song.

I'll hang up and listen.

So why we did it in the 80 and 90s with no issues? With live audiences - I don't want to hear about your opinions and hide behind a text line - I've heard plenty of wrong info but they refuse to answer even if you call them out on a text

That's why the world is the way it is now - folks don't want to socialize

Are you wanting hosts to interact with callers more often or coaches, or both?

If you're upset about the coaches, remember that by 610 AM being the official broadcast station of the Texans, they're not going to allow a program to exist where coaches get blasted by the public. Its the Houston Texans version of Texags radio. You have to play nice or you lose complete access. NFL viewership and interest still grows year over year. They don't need to have their coaches on the radio to remind people there is a game this weekend. Odds are 610 requires it as part off their deal to get people like yourself to tune in as radio audiences continue to decline with time. Texans oblige but they're not gonna let staff get thrown to the masses.

Re-reading some of my posts in this thread, even I have no idea what I was talking about. But I'm sure it was important.
