This morning while walking my kid to school, 2 kids and a dad came out of a house on the same journey. The kids were in t shirts and shorts but had their masks on. Its about 40 degrees out. Just seems a little ridiculous to me.

That dad is going to have to brain poke those kids when they come home with the cold-weather sniffles and snots ... you know, JUST TO BE SURE!

Here in Jackson Hole, tons of covididiots are outside masking, while skiing. Some even double masked. Thankfully, the higher up the mountain I go, the fewer of those there are.

Wife and I hopped on a gondola midpoint on day one, and two maskers were already on board. They could not press themselves any closer to the other side. The one across from me had giant, fear laden eyes.

I have no ****s left to give. I just started talking to the wife like all was normal.

Lots of stupid here. But, on a good note, there are "mask up" signs everywhere, especially on the busses. I'd say a good 60% are ignoring them.

I just skied in Park City. Hardly anyone skiing in a mask unless it was for actual cold weather with the holes. Supposedly required inside but probably 50/50 on people wearing them. Staff didn't care at all as opposed to last year when they were acting like the crazy flight attendants. My flight attendants both ways were especially lax on mask enforcement as well which was nice. Just the initial announcement and that was all.
I flew a lot for work over the summer plus some personal. It was amazing how much it differed every flight.

The most stark was a quick weekend trip to Vegas. Friday was basically a party and no one cared. Sunday, I'm pretty sure the FA had one heck of a hangover and was a B****.

We are going to Vegas next month. Not looking forward to it. Apparently you have to mask in all the casinos

Wife and I are doing a long weekend in Mexico next weekend. Looks like they've ended all the stupidity there but will have to test to return to the USA.

It's our anniversary and with all the stress of dealing with covidians, buying the new house, remodeling it, getting the old one ready to sell, selling it, and moving we just want time without the kids to sleep, lay on the beach with a cocktail, and fool around (that's in reverse order of importance). I'm usually all about getting out and doing stuff but beyond the aforementioned activities, we ain't doing *****

Be sure to take your covid test at the earliest possible time.

I've done four trips out there post-Covid. The mask thing is definitely a pain in the ass. The only positive is that they got rid of a lot of the even dumber rules, like plexiglass dividers at tables and limiting tables to 3 people. But the mask thing is a drag, no doubt.

Has to be tough for the elderly oxygen dependent smokers to smoke with a mask on in the casinos.

They can just use those masks with the holes in them the FTAB were using last year

What's the timeframe again? We're only there from Friday to Monday.

looks like it's been tightened to no more than 24 hrs prior to boarding flight.

People are supposedly taking self tests with them to test themselves with those first. That way if they pop positive they know not to take the official test and fall under the quarantine guidelines / room arrest.

I'm not sure how that's financially beneficial as I thought most mexican resorts were allowing you to stay for free if you pop positive, but by extending your stay on your own, you would be eating the cost.

Yeah, I think we're getting the trip insurance to cover a potentially extended stay. Who knows though.

The "check" of test results on a return flight from Cancun in October was a joke. Some airline guy just glanced at our printout as we were at the kiosk to check bags. That was it.

"who knows" is right.

It's the reason we have been only making trips we could drive to to avoid the unknown. Driving to the west coast wasn't exactly fun, but it was still easier than trying to fly during Covid with 2 kids under 7.

I don't see how this is beneficial. They pop positive on the self test and just extend their vacation by a week or so? And then risk popping positive again on the official PCR test, extending their vacation by another 10 days?

We've taken 4 trips to Mexico during covid since they dont require vax, however we always make certain to take all the kid's school stuff in case we have to stay an extra 10 days.

That is why we are driving to Georgia. Screw flying for pleasure with all the insanity still going on.

From what another poster said, they would just home test until they got a negative, which I thought would be up to months down the road, but apparently people are getting negative tests something like 5 days after initial positives. I think it was just so you wouldn't have to be holed up in a room if you did get the positive.
Ducks4brkfast

Yeah still confused. Just seems the chances of showing negative on a PCR test a handful of days after an at-home test is pretty low.

I read on here about a year ago about someone testing positive for the return home from Mexico. They cancelled their flight and booked a domestic flight to the border (Mexico), took an Uber to the crossing and walked across, once across the border took another Uber to the USA airport and flew home.

There's a thread on the travel board right now where a guy got stuck when he got a positive test prior to leaving and had to go to quarantine ut he got a negative something like 4 days later.

Probably not financially beneficial, but you can test each day until negative, then go take the official and go home, rather than be locked up for a minimum mandatory sentence of however long Lord Fauci deems appropriate. Personally, I would rather be in the drivers seat and not be caged up. If you feel fine, just go to the beach and stay away from most folks. Don't spend your time in lockdown texagging pics of the strange food they bring you.

Just out of curiosity, what is the "official" test?

When I recently came back from Italy, I took an electronically proctored home antigen test. If I would have popped positive, it wouldn't have mattered. Here's why: the only people they give the results to are the test taker and the company that administered it.

Wouldn't it have been just as easy to change the word "positive" to "negative" using Adobe?

At the Mexican resorts we had to go to a little test room where they had someone from the medical team administer the test. It was probably a bussboy in a nice shirt, and there was a tip jar, but whatever.

Man my understanding of Italy's situation is they are super nazi about foreign travelers popping positive. Like your results are required to be reported to the government and they then lock you up for 10 days.

Not at all the case. No one in Italy ever knew we took the test. And there was absolutely no way they could have disclosed the results to anyone besides me and the test company without incurring serious liability. Also, the test company didn't know that I was sitting in an Italian hotel room taking the test.

ETA: We used Abbot Labs Binax Now Home tests. You have to keep them sealed in the box until you connect to their proctor online. Just a quick link through a VPN and "poof!" I'm taking the test from 'Merica.
