Covid is far more dangerous to people who are obese, diabetic, and with high blood pressure. All of those conditions occur at a substantially higher rate in the black and Hispanic populations than in whites or Asians. Then combine that with the simple fact that black and Hispanics tend, as a whole, to be lower income and far less likely to seek medical care they get sicker from covid. And yet, until fairly recently, these populations were far less likely to get vaccinated.

Also vitamin D deficiency. The darker a group is, the more vitamin D deficient on average. If you are brown or black, you should have started taking liberal amounts of vitamin D back in March 2020.

Well, they doubled down on this during the meeting this morning. We go back Monday, come hell or high virus count. Through the whole thing they kept saying that we won't come back until the county metrics are in the green. Now, metrics don't matter, get back in here. No meetings, unless you can spread out an undetermined distance. Mask anytime indoors, unless in an office by yourself with the door closed. Clown world that has now invaded my work.

Yeah I'm staying home. Not driving 30 minutes for that. None of my direct team is in Houston so it's not really a big deal. We're hybrid but I wanted to go so I can visit with past coworkers and get out of the house more but no thanks.

Guess enough people complained, and rightfully so. Company just dropped the mask mandate, unless you are not able to distance 6 feet. Still pissed at them for waiting this long. They are doing a really ****ty job of rolling this out.

You don't get credit for doing the right thing if everyone has to tell you that you ****ed up first.

While not as reliable as the HEB crowd, been to a three different doctors' offices and one dentist the past 2 weeks without wearing a mask and despite signs requiring masks nobody said a word. Most of the staff wearing masks did so below their noses and one doc didn't wear a mask at all.

Contrast the above with going to a specialist at Memorial City this week. Was told to swap out my mask with one of theirs, identical in brand/appearance. Also fill out this form stating you've not been around anyone with Covid and they take your temperature.

This was:
- ortho appt for my 11-year old who broke his wrist this past Sunday
- ENT appt for me (I have a small perforation in my ear drum from free diving/spearfishing several years ago that won't close)
- pediatric dentist for both boys
- follow-up with oral surgeon for my 11-year old who had to have supernumerary incisors pulled to get ready for braces (plus they took his wisdom teeth)

But, the Memorial Herman ER (one of their standalone ER places) we took the 11-year old when he broke his wrist was the same as your experience with your doctor. Masks, temperature check, questionnaire, etc.

The ortho is part of the UT Physicians system but the ENT, pediatric dentist, and oral surgeon are all their own independent practices groups.

I don't recall there being a big issue because of no masks in CCISD. I think it was mostly just kids being back together to start the school year and even that was done in a month or so.

The only issues at CCISD were the fat Karens certain there would be children and teachers lying in the hallway dying of Covid every day.

This is the part that I can't wait for. There are some people that are not going to have any reason to get out of bed any longer. I feel sorry for the security guard working some of our HS track meets last year. It was like his moment finally arrived....he had been training his entire life for this moment. He got to tell a bunch of adults who chose to be where they were to mask up at an outdoor event.
