No doubt...amazing how quickly you get used to no mask.

FYI - I've done trips the last 2 weeks on United and all 4 flights and time in the airport I wore my 12th Man gaiter the sent me as season ticket holder. The flight/CDC regulations say no bandanas but plenty of gaiters in all airports and flights. With this thing you can blow out a candle across the table so was MUCH better wearing it versus regular mask.
I used to wear one to drop of my kid at pre-school. I would put it on as we were driving up and I could put it over my eyes and still see well enough to drive. Yet people felt "protected" because I had it on.

Getting awfully close to metrics for threat level green. Wonder if the judge will have a press conference with a big banner.

I don't even see that kind of craziness up here in liberal land, which means either Houston has become bluer than MN or that's just a really extremely outlier.
I've been traveling a bit recently and can confidently say that I've seen WAY more masks in the Houston area than anywhere else.
I was up in New England 2 weeks ago and was worried people were still going to be freaked out and restrictive. It was freer than Houston. First time I had seen a waiters face in months and pretty much non existent everywhere. I live in the Heights here and just got back from the Kolache place. I was the only one of 5 customers in there with out one. I don't understand why people are still hanging on here.

There are a lot of white, progressive, feel-good dumbasses roaming around Houston.

I'm certain lina having code red flashing everywhere for over a year didn't help things. We also need to be resigned to the fact that texans are not near as independent minded as we may like to think.

Especially places like the Heights.

They're all play acting that their neighborhood is some little proto-Napa/Austin/Cambridge enclave in the middle of a bunch of uncouth rubes whose industry enables their high paying white collar job that doesn't exist elsewhere.

They take it off when they go to 30A for the weekend.

Man this is perfect. My brother in law and sister in law fit this perfectly. During the height of this, they were bat**** crazy. Wouldn't even let their kids see their grandparents. Like the grandparents are a risk to the kids on covid? Wth? But of course they were ok with taking their yearly trip to Rosemary beach Florida, in which they got a house with 4 different families.

Yes, they live in the heights.

I was going to say Watercolor, but didn't know if people would get the reference.

Hopefully it stays east of you. Don't forget the required stop at the Buc-ee's in Alabama.

I bet a lot of it is the diversity here. The NE is so predominately blue that they don't have to worry about virtue signalling at republicans. While here there is a closer split that they are still worried about the republicans getting them sick or worse, being confused with a republican.

I think this is probably the case. Just outliers because I don't see a ton masked up anymore. It just really stands out to me when I see kids masked up.

Really, anybody I see these days wearing a mask who doesn't have some outward sign of an illness of some sort (ie- bald cancer patient) I assume is a paranoid dumbass. Because at this point you've either had covid or had the vaccine and have immunity or you were never wearing a mask in the first place unless absolutely forced to do so.

It's all become nothing more than virtue-signalling.

30A is great, no one cares about masking up or COVID at all.

Exaxtly. If you want the vaccine, you have had it by now and shouldn't wear a mask. If you don't want the vaccine, you almost certainly couldn't give any fewer ****s about wearing masks. That makes the only explanation that people either don't trust the vaccine or are so caught up in what others will thibk of them that they must continue wearing it. God forbid Nancy from down the street thinks you could have voted for trump because you ditched your mask.

And the parents who don't wear masks but have their kids in them are the worst of all. CPS should be taking every one of those kids away because the foster system is almost certainly better than the trash they are being dealt st home with legitimately crazy parents.

We always stay around Grayton Beach but I thought Seaside was more expensive that Watercolor, no? Or at least on par with each other?

Actually we are a little further down the road east from Seaside. Santa Rosa Beach?

My SIL has been fully vaccinated for quite a while now (like March) as well as my wife's whole family and when we were out for father's day they had masks on while sitting at the table for lunch. When my wife asked her why, her response was that only 49% of Harris County had been vaccinated and so they had concerns. I just sat there and didn't say anything because I didn't want to have a fight. But she is well educated but so far left that I have just decided that it isn't worth it anymore.

Santa Rosa Beach is west of Seaside. Well, W/NW anyway.

And we're actually closer to Blue Mountain Beach. If you've got little kids I highly recommend Grayton because the pass from the dune lake to the beach forms a little lagoon that's generally gin clear and perfectly calm for little kids.

Nope, the other one that is about as far left as you can be and still be in Texas. I am surprised she didn't end up at Berkeley. And how her husband got to be so liberal growing up on a farm in small town panhandle Texas is amazing.

I've seen this quite a bit with urban professionals that "escaped" rural small towns. They tend to view themselves as better than those rubes that didn't leave, and along with that is a rejection of the politics of those rubes.

He got his PhD in English and his thesis was compare and contrast Latinx portrayal in I Love Lucy vs. Charles in Charge. He is obviously better than those backwards hicks.

But I digress. I am wondering what my daycare is going to do because they said they won't lift the mask mandate until a certain (undisclosed) percentage of vaccination among the staff has been reached but from the make up of the staff and from conversations I have had with them, I don't know if they are going to reach that threshold. Currently, all kids over 2 have to wear masks and teachers have to mask and face shield unless they are outside. I wonder if they are going to slowly relax or what. I did see the other day when I was in the school, which parents are allowed in except for special exceptions, like room parents can come in to take pictures of holiday parties or whatever, and there was a bulletin board of printed out emails from parents that read, "As a scientist,..." or "As a doctor,..." praising the school for not listening to the governor and continuing masking. It was a little ridiculous.

The school essentially never closed during the pandemic and the kids are happy and it is close to the house. They managed to squeeze our younger kid in on March 1 and he was the last new kid admitted for months. There was no way we could have both kept our jobs with out the school so I am letting them be for the time being. It is only our older son for right now and he does ok with it.

I don't particularly care for it but we have at least gotten the little one to know where his nose is now after much work at home since the teachers are always masked. They are slowly getting back to normal with opening more and more things that had been shut since March of 20.

What he said. You need to go elsewhere. No daycares are doing the nonsense anymore. Ours was happy to have Abbott and CISD give them the cover they needed to remove the mandate. Kids never had to wear them though, only staff and parents. If they would've made the kids wear one, we would have gone elsewhere long ago.

It doesn't bother me. I've surely made similar comments. But I view daycare\school much like voting. I view it holistically. There may be things I dislike but do they outweigh the positives. Some people view abortion as a total non-option for voting. Some may view masking as a total non-option for daycare. I don't particularly care for it but it certainly doesn't outweigh the benefits I see from my daycare like the teachers love my kids and they have been great to work with and it is close to my house and they open earlier and close later than most daycares. The kids learn a lot compared to their peers and so I tolerate the mask BS. Would I prefer it to be done? Yes. Do I think like some posters that it is contributing to the marxisation of our children? No. My kid is only masked at school and he hasn't turned in to a marxist yet. Hopefully, strong family values will help keep it that way.
