We got an email from CCISD that they will not be offering online attendance next year as originally planned because the leg didn't authorize the funds. Definitely seems like something that was now solving a problem that no longer feasibly exists.

on a similar note, HISD was disappointed to hear that their smallpox awareness funding didn't come through either.

My district isn't either, but mostly because most of the 70-odd high schoolers that applied didn't qualify, which makes me laugh.

I felt like that was likely to happen. The ones who would qualify would look at the numbers for class rankings and not want to do it. Stiffer competition with a smaller class size would have put them potentially much farther down.

How much money are the city and county still pumping in to this bs? Any idea?

I think experts need to start admitting there is herd immunity being reached in certain parts of the country.

It's clear to me that natural infection plus vaccinations is leading to Texas reaching this threshold.

I'm not sure if this is worse than the dudes I've seen riding motorcycles wearing surgical masks but no helmets but I saw a new dumbass mask-wearing today.

Swimming laps in an outdoor pool this morning and there's an old folks water aerobics class in the other end of the pool each morning. Today I saw an older black lady (probably mid-60s) in the pool, in the bright sunshine, doing the water aerobics class in a face diaper.

I cannot roll my eyes hard enough at that one.

The vast majority of people I still see wearing masks are black. I'm in a different southern state right now, also with no requirements, so it is all personal choice.

Yeah, leaving the gym I saw some black dude who looked to be mid-30s to early-40s and pretty fit carrying some basketball gear and two boys who I assume were his sons that looked to be 10-12 years old. I'm guessing they had been practicing basketball. Anyway, all three were outside walking from the building to their vehicle in 85-degree, bright sunshine wearing masks.

They're all in just about the lowest possible risk groups and outside where it's virtually impossible to catch it from somebody with nobody within 30 feet of them and still wearing masks.

I get it's a personal choice but there's not a single, rational reason that can be given for them to have been wearing masks. It's the absolute blind obedience and unquestioning compliance with no individual thought that blows my mind. And, yes, it does anger me somewhat. I just want to shake these people and yell "STOP BEING AFRAID! THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON YOU SHOULD BE WORRIED!!"

One of the largest displays of insanity I've seen was at my son's swimming lesson before the 15 Jun date where the kung flu magically disappeared here in CA. The company made their instructors wear masks in the pool while instructing the kids. I got up and told her there's no reason to wear that for our son and to feel free to take it off if she wanted to. She said they used to until other parents started narcing on them to the management.

The collective insanity is just wild.

I mean, this is on the same level as the 1938 panic over Orson Welles's "War of the Worlds" radio broadcast.

Been at Disney world this week and it's been 10-15% in masks and they haven't even been enforcing anything for kids (who obviously aren't vaccinated). Been great and felt very normal
