Live up at Gessner just before West Rd. Sounded like someone smacked my garage door.
I was in the room here one day... watchin' the Mexican channel on TV. I don't know nothin' about Pele. I'm watchin' what this guy can do with a ball and his feet. Next thing I know, he jumps in the air and flips into a somersault and kicks the ball in - upside down and backwards... the dang (sc) goalie never knew what the hell hit him. Pele gets excited and he rips off his jersey and starts running around the stadium waving it around his head. Everybody's screaming in Spanish. I'

This one looks like it was a good bit worse than the initial blast in Port Neches.

I lived in Bryan when that Brenham explosion happened. My buddy I roomed with couldn't believe I slept through it.

It's not much debris but I'm still surprised by it. I live a couple of miles straight down from the explosion so all I know is what I heard and felt.

Westchase is about 7-8 miles away. I thought it might have tapered off pretty good as it got further away. If that's what was seen and felt 7-8 miles away it was a damn serious blast and very fortunate there weren't more casualties and damage.

I felt and heard it 22 miles away, enough so that I thought I needed to do a walk around the outside of the house.

Sound travels about a quarter mile per second. Judging but proximity of the flash and sound, I'd say this video is much closer to the explosion than Westchase, maybe a mile or less.

Meh. Considering they didn't initially know what it was that exploded, the abundance of caution due to potential air quality issues doesn't bother me. Once it was determined that it wasn't hazardous, they went about normal business.

If there was an explosion near your kids school, you'd be perfectly fine with sending them off to school without knowing what the hell blew up and if it's created hazardous air conditions? Come on man. We live in the US O&G capitol with chemicals and hazardous materials everywhere. Like I said, advising parents to be prepared for potential school shutdowns or delays was the right thing to do. Once they found out it was propylene, the all clear was given. School handled it properly and I hate coddling kids. It's safety.

Families zoned and in the immediate vicinity to those schools were evacuated to the shelter. They couldn't drive anywhere and no way buses could've got in and out of those neighborhoods.

It's not about toughening them up it's about being logical.

Now I'd have called BS if they'd have cancelled classes in the entire district but cancelling for those couple schools was the right thing to do.
