East bound side looks salvageable.

West Bound side looks like the entire support and short and long span on each side is going to have to completely come out and get replaced. I'm thinking 3 months MINIMUM, but more like 6 months and only if they can get emergency approval to skip environment permitting. With full environmental permitting, 2021 would be optimistic.

Unless the construction company employs a race of aliens that craps plutonium straight into the river, I don't really think you're going to move the needle on the environmental quality of that stretch of river. They already have "don't eat any fish that you catch here" signs up all over the place around there.
Doesn't matter whether you're improving things or making them worse. REVIEW TIME on the permit is averaging 1.5 years right now in Harris County.
Who is issuing/reviewing the permit?

TRAFFIC UPDATE: We are communicating directly with TXDOT here at City Hall and they have agreed to expedite work on the I-10 San Jacinto bridge to get traffic running both directions on the Eastbound side of the bridge. It should be open later today!

The bridge over the river is actually split into two separate bridges. The Eastbound, or South bridge, did not suffer damage, so they are going to reconfigure the lanes to move both East and West bound traffic to that bridge until the Westbound, or North bridge, is repaired.

Ohh goodie. One lane each way. I'm sure the TXDOT merge rules will be followed in detail.

I look forward to people posting pictures of the shutdown portion that they took while slowing down on the open portion.

Totally glossed over the eastbound bridge being ok. At least it'll be open but that sounds turrible.

I'm going to do a drone photo shoot once they reopen the bridge with my car club around 6:30 when the lighting is just right.

It looks like it's going to be 2 lanes in each direction.

I'm not convinced that drive times will be any better than they were taking the detours.
CDUB98

Umm, they have to improve.

If you literally remove some traffic from the detours and put it back on I-10, the drive time on the detours will reduce. It may only be five minutes as people still use the detours to avoid the expected fustercluck on I-10, but it will be less time.

290 was bc of the Mexican contractor who backed out without doing any work.

45 south is WB. Been under construction since 1965.

It really feels like longer than that. Seemed like it was than a year before Harvey over on the Kirkwood area.

At least portions were torn up late 2016. Almost 3 full years at this point.
