Antonio's on Baker Rd is good Italian. Bread loaf & knots are really good. Across the Fred Hartmann bridge in LaPorte is New Orleans Seafood Kitchen. Exit Spencer and turn left. On your left at 324 W Main. Also in LaPorte is Main Street Cafe, 223 W Main. Very good burger.

This joint looks legit. I will give it a spin next week, then a nap afterwards. I used to do a lot of work at Targa and never knew about this place.
They just built it a couple of years ago. Great food. Bread pudding is the tits.

I was born in Baytown and my parents were from there. I went back about 3 weeks ago and drove thru town. It is a freaking wasteland.

It's really solid, home style food. They usually cater our end of school year luncheon in BHISD.

Exactly. It's full of rednecks and hard-workin Mexicans, but you can't deny the tax base and the plethora of operators making $100K+ a year from Exxon, Chevron, Covestro and surrounding plants.

Plus, bucees doesn't just build anywhere.

As someone who grew up there....that's like arguing about which terminal illness is better. "Which place are we driving from to go do anything that doesn't involve smoking meth?"

Lots of development going on around this area. Probably not the same place you grew up.

Grew up in Baytown and parents are still there even after Harvey attacked. There is a ton more retail than when I was there, but the city sure isn't the same.

That said, it was a good place to grow up and isn't terrible now. Exxon used to encourage their workers to live in Baytown, but over the last 20 years they have been pushing the engineers and scientists to the Clear Lake area.

But to the original question, grab a sandwich at Colonial House. A favorite for many years.

Where I learned to play. Talk about some memories... it's weird but the things I remember so fondly we're kind of mixed: the grass was greener there than any other place on earth...the Spanish moss in the trees...the green fungus growing on the dark dirt under the trees...the faint smell of the refinery in the background...the brown mustardy looking fungus on the concrete...the oyster shell cart paths...the best cheese peanut butter crackers and Mr Pibb on the planet...and some of the darkest clouds and rain storms I've ever seen.

I have discovered that Garth is a total beat down. It sucks in both directions and the whole length. It really needs to be 4 lanes each way and everything you need involves going on it.
