What is the noise I am hearing? The generator buzzing noise? Dull but loud enough to hear over the rain?
This buzzing noise?

Looking like 1"-3" tonight and into tomorrow morning. The worst appears to be behind us.

Yeah looks like the worst rain amounts are behind us.

Think now the concern has to be will the down time during the day today be enough for everything to drain so that 1-3" doesn't F everything up.

Don't know about the bayous in town, but the rivers west of town don't have any capacity for anything to drain into.

Let's say I wanted to drive from pearland to Huntsville later today. How easy would that be?

Assuming no surface roads are flooded to get to 288 or 45, you should be fine.

Should be an easy 30 minute drive.

None of the local stations are doing wall-to-was coverage anymore, so I guess all is well.

Kingwood folks - how's kingwood doing? I'm traveling for business and haven't see. The news.
Here's what happened in Elm Grove, and why it happened:

From one of the pic captions:

Quote:

Few people in this neighborhood had flood insurance because it had never flooded.

At this point I have very little sympathy for anyone that lives in the Houston area and doesn't have flood insurance. I am sorry that you are having to deal with a flood, but there is absolutely zero excuse to not have flood insurance. I thought everyone learned that lesson after Harvey, but apparently not.

Live in kingwood and don't have flood insurance. But I'm at the top of a hill and have gravity working for me.

Not even close.

Have flood insurance. $450 well spent.

A lot of us are high enough to where it would be throwing money away. If my house floods then it's game over for H-Town. We're in Oak Forest and Harvey, Tax day, Memorial day, Allison...all barely got into our yard. Diff story for the people at the end of our street.

Prob just jinxed everything.

I'm in Kingwood and at the top of a hill as well, and not in a flood zone, but I have it. $450 is not much for a peace of mind. Our street never looked worse than a typical afternoon shower during all of this.

I had friends that used their flood insurance because some mulch built up outside one of their windows and flooded their house. Any amount of rising water is only covered by flood insurance. It doesn't even have to flood from the street. It is stupid to not have flood insurance. If a storm drain is blocked or if they have the flood gates closed like they did in Sugar Land, that is all it takes for a place that has never flooded before to flood.

Yeah that's about right. Kingwood is about to go from being a wealthy area to worse than Humble. Why would anyone live there at this point?

Someday people will look back in the history books at Houston and wonder what the hell people were thinking settling in a swamp.
