maaaaan you just brought back tons of memories from cypress growing up. what about games people play down 1960 kind of by champions? from what I hear, willowbrook, and to a further extent that Cinemark across the street, are dumpster places full of people you don't necessarily want to be shopping/watching movies around.
I remember it well.third coast.. said:

Before I was in real estate I worked in entertainment...Mountasia (opened Willowbrook in '94), Malibu Grand Prix, Laserquest....one of the toughest parts of the job was keeping it free of the "local neighborhood social clubs and chemical engineering entrepreneurs". Pricing is one aspect of it, but you've got to have a dedicated mindset that will spend and do what it takes to keep the park clean.
The amount of money you'd spend just on security for a park the size of Astroworld is mind boggling.
Doh, Sharpstine is what I meant. Never went to the Willowbrook one.schmendeler said:Boo Weekley said:Hellya, best birthday spot in the world.Jock 07 said:

There was one in Willowbrook next to where the fiesta is.
The one I remember going to was in sharpstown.

We went to Astroworld the last day it was open. The last ride we rode was Greased Lighting - since we were the last group before closing they sent us twice in a row, and then they shut down. Based on what the vid said, since demo started the next day we may have been the last group to ride it.Orlando Ayala Cant Read said:
Greased Lightening in the front row was sheer greatness. I remember one Holiday in the Park night around 1989ish the park was empty and i had the time of my life riding in the front of GL about 20 straight times. No wait.
I always told myself if i became super rich id buy Greased Lightening and put it in my back yard once Astroworld closed down. Unfortunately city code wont allow me to follow that dream. Ya thats the reason...city code![]()

Maybe you should be more specific then instead of making a blanket statement. Are you anti-immigration in general or just anti-illegal immigration? Is immigration okay if the people who come over are carefully vetted and are generally desirable? And how do you feel about Katrina refugees? Not immigration but large scale migration. On second thought, you know what? Actually, nobody gives a eff - we are just trying to reminiscence about growing up in Houston. Not everything has to be political.
