'03 Montgomery here.

Got the last of times with astroworld but good times with splashdown and mountasia.

Funny thing about water parks, it keeps some of the riff-raft away since they don't like swimming.

Yeah it clearly wasn't whites who caused people to stop going to Astroworld. People have been dancing around the issue all through this thread, but everyone knows exactly what caused it. The park became entirely unsafe and was a haven for criminal activity. The fact that this cannot be discussed without using crypto terms because people don't want to get reported is ridiculous.
meh, having to deal with white trash, hipsters, neck beards, fats, and a variety of different groups keeps me from going to a lot of public places/events too.

Dancing around the actual issues is a solid way of discussing things of course.

I already could tell you were bitter about minorities. My incredulity was your claim that fights break out all around you every time you go to the mall. I've never once seen a fight in a mall in my lifetime, certainly not in the nicer ones you mentioned, and also not even in the ****holes I grew up going to or even Post Oak Mall with idiot roving gangs of college kids.

I think you're a few years older than me, but we definitely could have crossed paths at some point. I graduated from Falls in 04, had lots of friends at Fair, JV, and Langham. Definitely spent a lot of time at Willowbrook Mall, Mountasia, the AMC 24, etc.

Falls '03, so. I doubt we were in the same hallway at some point.

It's not bitterness, it's called opening my eyes. These issues literally didn't exist when I was a kid. My wife won't go to malls by herself at all anymore and does most of her shopping online.

you're seriously fearful of going to a mall because there are minorities there? might want to invest in a bubble suit.

Greased Lightening in the front row was sheer greatness. I remember one Holiday in the Park night around 1989ish the park was empty and i had the time of my life riding in the front of GL about 20 straight times. No wait.

I always told myself if i became super rich id buy Greased Lightening and put it in my back yard once Astroworld closed down. Unfortunately city code wont allow me to follow that dream. Ya thats the reason...city code
We went to Astroworld the last day it was open. The last ride we rode was Greased Lighting - since we were the last group before closing they sent us twice in a row, and then they shut down. Based on what the vid said, since demo started the next day we may have been the last group to ride it.

It was such a simple yet fun coaster.
The video said Greased Lighting was one of the rides relocated to another park.

Clearly you haven't seen the inside of them recently. 80% of the people there are loitering in the hallways and not even shopping at all, much less buying anything. It's generally a miserable experience all around.

I stand corrected... Greased Lighting was moved twice, but never assembled or made operational.

Where are Astroworlds coasters now

Your wife is too scared to shop at the Sugar Land, and Memorial City malls because there are sometimes minorities loitering? Sounds like your irrational fears have really taken hold of her.

I'm probably just getting old, but I just can't see any reasonably priced amusement of any kind not going the same direction. People are freaking terrible to be around and Houston feels like it has doubled in size since Astroworld shut down. Open up another alternative, and it's going to be shoulder to shoulder with the insulin dependent neck tattoo crowd.
When the malls have all become terrible no matter where they are located (Sugarland, Woodlands, Memorial, etc.) then it's pretty safe to say that almost all of these places would be unsafe.

Roving bands of minority criminals make these places unbearable to go to for any significant period of time. I can't go to any mall anymore without seeing a fight.
this whole post is bull ***** if you're afraid to go to any of those malls, the problem is with you, not the people with more melanin than you.

does danger exist in bad areas? sure. but to claim that any mall is now unsafe because it's not just white people frequenting them? that's pathetic and disgusting.

I'm not sure I agree with the safety aspect, but I can definitely attest to the clientele being trashy (of all varieties).

This whole discussion is TexAgging all wrong.

My wife doesn't shop at places like Sugar Land and Memorial City malls (and the Galleria for that matter) because the retailers with shops there are middle class suburban trash peddling off the rack garbage to slack-jawed mouth breathers. Those places (and the people that frequent them) are beneath us. It's like walking the Vegas strip -- lots of unfortunate tattoos, exposed flesh, and people drinking 128 oz frozen drinks out of giant plastic containers with silly straws.

See how I did that?

I need to find these malls where they have fights and other excitement. Every time I go to Memorial City, Baybrook or even Hong Kong it's boring as ***** The first two do get crowded sometimes with slow-walking people that don't look like me.

Edit: Nobody at Hong Kong looks like me but my wife drags me there for the grocery store or Pho Don (sp) once a year.

Speaking of what happened to old Astroworld rides, I was driving north on Highway 6 through Arcola back in the 90s when I saw some familiar objects sitting in overgrown weeds and grass on someone's property near the intersection of 6 and FM 521.

The objects were these cars from the old Astrowheel ride. I believe this was one of the park's original rides when it opened in 1968. These cars were in that field for several years, as I made frequent trips along that route from Missouri City/Stafford to Lake Jackson/Angleton, but I'm pretty sure they've been gone for many years by now.
