Galveston isn't known for Mexican but if I'm going to be back in Texas for a few days I'm eating bbq and Mexican. It's all better than what's available out of state.

Steer me to the good ones, please

Posting here because I trust the Tine board opinion on food more than other boards.

It's not Mexican, but I think Honduran and its awesome. Cabot remember the name but it's on Broadway around 35thish. La michoacana and the joint on seawall and about 12th or so are both awesome and more the authentic Mexican type. Seawall one is cash only.

The original is terrible
I think the one on the seawall you are talking about is Gordita's at 7th and seawall. And WTH is this Honduran place on Broadway? I have no clue.

There is no decent BBQ in Galveston. IMO the best in the area is Joe's in Alvin.

I'm coming from Louisiana and heading South from Winnie so the kids can ride the ferry for the first time. So no Alvin.

And trust me, any bbq is better than what's available around Lake Charles. I'm gonna try that Leon's BBQ in Galveston one day for lunch. That's why I was just looking for Mexican recommendations. But am open to a bbq suggestion too.

Depends on what you want brah. For al pastor tacos, Taqueria Flores food truck at 33rd & Broadway. Breakfast tacos, El Jardin at 24th & Post Office. Mercadito at 38th and Broadway also bomb af.

All this in addition to what third coast has already said.

My wife eats cheese enchiladas. I eat almost anything at a Mexican joint.

Good salsa & good queso are important. As well as good Mexican rice.

And despite my love of food trucks, especially taco trucks, it'll be me, my 7 month pregnant wife, a 6 year old, a 3 year old, and a 16 year old babysitter. Definitely need someplace to sit down.

Sounds like you'll need a place with some good drinks, too.

If we eat Mexican in Galveston we usually go the the original as rec'd above. It is ok.

Tortuga near 61st and sea wall is pretty bad

We haven't tried salsas on the sea wall but I think someone recommended it to me.

Queens BBQ is ok.

Salsas Mexican is on 45th and seawall. Or really damn close to 45th. It is fair, nothing more.

They just opened up a new bbq joint on the island. I believe it is a second location and the original is on 45 in la marque. Never eaten there, but it is usually packed with bikers.

Just go up the road to Killen's in Pearland for your barbecue fix. It isn't that far.

I just google mapped Galveston to Pearland and it said 42 miles. That's a pretty hefty drive for lunch. That would be like heading to Huntsville for lunch when you live in College Station.

And that doesn't include the 2 hour wait in line to get into Killen's. It's great BBQ but not doing that wait again.

No food is worth waiting 2 hours in a line with a 3 year old, 6 year old, and a preggo

We need an automatic ban for posts like this. Go sit in the corner for 2 weeks and think about what you've done.

True dat. Someone recommended PitStop BBQ. I went to their original location in LaMarque soon after it opened and it was terrible. Figured they had a bad day or whatever and gave them a second try a couple of months later. Honestly the worst BBQ I've ever had.

And as for Mexican food, grab a couple dozen tamales from Texas Bakery on Broadway to take back to LA.

Just curious, but did anyone consult Backpages or ECCIE for the best Mexican on the Island?

Think we are gonna go with Taquilos. Seems to be the most family friendly of the ones listed here.

Will do Queen's for BBQ
