I'm heading up a bachelor party in New Orleans and I'm kind of in the dark about places to stay or rent while we're down there. I'm assuming that the French Quarter is the place to look for a hotel or VRBO house, but that's really the extent of what I know. What areas or part of town would be within a easy walk to Bourbon street and other local attractions, restaurants, and etc? Also, any recommendations on a decent but not too expensive golf course in the area? TIA

Audubon Golf Course is a cool "executive" golf course - its a par 62, but it's a fun one to play. Should be $40-50 to play.

Don't bother with golf. No one goes to NO to play golf.

Find a place to stay in the French Quarter where you don't have to drive anywhere and stick to boozing and debauchery along Bourbon. Make multiple casino trips to refill the bank account.

Few places I always like to hit up

Mother's for a ferdi special with bread pudding
Cigar Factory on Decatuer for nice cigars
Drago's for chargrilled oysters
Jacque Imo's for dinner (cab needed)
Jean Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop for drinks
Pat O's for hurricanes and mint juleps
Larry Flynt's Hustler Club for teets

Hotel selection is key. Too close to the Casino, you wake up -2000 not knowing what happened. Too close to Bourbon St, the same but with the addition of an STD. I prefer the JW Marriott.

If scrip clubs are your thing, might wanna get some updated reviews. They've been undergoing some "clean up" efforts in recent weeks.

There's this awesome place a couple blocks from from Bourbon. There are new rules regarding advertising on airbnb in this area so this house is no longer listed and only word of mouth.

I've stayed 3 times here, including a couple weeks ago for my own bachelor party. Dude has a massive house with twin size mattresses throughout the house in case you need them. We had 9 guys there, Fri- Sun, $1200 total. It's actually 2 houses here, one slightly smaller than the other.

937 Bienville St
Guys name is Brent, his number is 504-908-6260

have to second the JW on canal street. Mostly because I have a lot of Marriott status and the last time I went, I got upgraded to room 3009 - the two floor presidential suite. Twasasome.

If you go in a group, I can almost guarantee you that attractive black women in teams of two will try to persuade you and/or your buddies to get in their car with them for sexual favors. Do not fall for this scam. You will wake up in some sketch part of town with no wallet and no phone and no recollection of how you got there. I know it's common sense but I have seen these ladies in work and they almost got one of my buds on a bachelor trip. They were very attractive, scantily clad and were driving a Tahoe, but I saved him from entering. I know several people who have been robbed this way. Happens all the time in Nola and South Beach and other touristy places that don't shut down until the wee hours.

Shoe them away like fleas all night.

Third for JW Marriott. Uber from airport if you are flying because they gouge you on parking + you won't need a car.

Guys! This is no joke and is absolutely true!

As soon as you get in the car and drive away, they start having sex with each other.

Then one of them climbs over into the front seat and performs oral sex on you, while the other one steals your wallet!!!

I had my wallet stolen January 4th, 9th, 10th, twice on the 15th, 17th, 20th, 28th, three times just yesterday, and very likely again this upcoming weekend as soon as I can buy some more wallets.

Again - beware!!

This scam sounds almost as dangerous as the Saltgrass Steakhouse chicken fried steak scam.

Astor Crowne Plaza at the corner of Bourbon & Canal. At the end of Bourbon but close enough walk to casino still.

I second the recommendation for Brent's house. I've stayed there twice and the location is prime.

This. Stayed there twice for Bach parties and it's a great location. Bourbon is right there and it's a 4-5 min walk to Harrah's.

I've been to New Orleans three times in the past 6 months and went with VRBO in the FQ each time. Cheaper than the hotels and some come with parking. Killer Poboys is a awesome sandwich shop in the QTR and I like Ruby Slipper off Canal for breakfast. Either use the option to get on the waiting list via text message or just order and pick up. Wait can be long and they don't sit a party unless everyone is there. And take a Buckshot at Drinkery on Bourbon. Cleanest restrooms on Bourbon.

Port O' Call is at the end of Bourbon @ Esplanade and is an amazing burger (almost as good as a Texags backyard burger). But the best part is the 32oz monsoons they serve...tasty and very strong.

There's a place called Central Grocery that sells a muffaletta sandwich that's different than Jason's Deli but still not bad if you're in the mood.

3 times all in the quarter? what did you do?

outside of blacksmith and a couple of hotels, better and more interesting bars throughout the city than what is on Bourbon. unless you are 22.

My favorite bar there is the Erin Rose, it's on Conti a half-block off Bourbon. It's amazing how just getting 50 feet off Bourbon makes for a completely different place. Another great bar in the Quarter that's more locals is Harry's Corner on Chartres & Dumaine.

We usually stay at the Monteleone but we'll be in town for a wedding in a few weeks and that coincides with a huge convention so we're staying at the Omni on St. Louis this time.

more locals
I always wonder why people say this about businesses in New Orleans as if that's some sort of positive recommendation. Nobody goes to the French Quarter to hang out with bottom dwelling Yats or get murdered; you go to be around other drunk tourists and creep and college girls.
