Don't know if it's been discussed yet but I just found out Ramen Tatsu-Ya is about to open next week. Whenever I'd visit friends in Austin this was always a go to for me. With that in mind, what are some of yalls favorite spots for ramen in Houston? Don't like ramen? How about noodles in general? I've tried Pho once in Cypress and wasn't impressed. I'm sure there are better options further in town.

Cheers!

I think I see your problem there sport.

Ramen in Houston, I like Kubo, Fat Bao, and Sasaki. I've never had Tatsu-Ya but I'm skeptical the place will be able to improve on what's already here in Houston.

I had some enchiladas in Minneapolis once. They weren't very good. I don't get the love for all these Mexican restaurants either.

cypress? There's your problem. You have to go to Waller for good pho. Now some people say Tomball or Katy have the best, but real houstonians know Waller is where it's at. If you're in a pinch, Prairie View serves up a mean bowl too.

Been meaning to try Tiger Den but haven't made it over there. Especially for the izakaya.

Tiger Den is the best I've had in the city thus far.

Real Ramen is nothing like the just add water packs you buy at the grocery store. C'mon man.

I haven't tried more than a handful in the Tine, but the best by far that I have had is at Mikoto (off Katy Frwy and Dairy Ashford). Their Spicy Pork Paitan is heavenly to me.

The cheap-ass Ramen packs from the grocery store are still a favorite comfort food of mine from when I was a kid. Especially when I get sick- beef ramen and a PB&J sandwich. Then dunk the sandwich into the ramen broth. You get a whole salty, sweet, savory thing.

But, yeah real ramen is not remotely the same and it's the tits.

You don'the get to put in all the extra fixins' like pho. Noodles are different and meat is generally much different. Most common feature is they are both in a broth.

Tried it today. Ordered tsukemen and the broth was room temperature. Did not like it. It was almost like cold soba. Not sure if that's just how they do their tsukemen or not, but was not feeling it.

Will give it one more chance with some regular tonkotsu next time.

I tried this place over the weekend. I agree, it was very good, but did not supplant Tiger Den as my favorite.

It's been a while since I've been to the Den, so I can't compare the two.

At least the meat looks cooked on the package.

Nothing gets my appetite going quite like seeing grey/silver boiled beef in my ramen/pho like some of these "noodle houses" serve

That's the traditional way.

The meat is sliced so thin that the liquid cooks it.

That's agu ramen.

Pretty good.
I like ninja ramen better, however agu ramen has way more choices.

They are a Hawaiian fast food chain branching out
