Not going to lie - a plain old Shipley's ham and cheese kolache has been the tits for me lately. Buc-Eee's has a pretty solid ham and cheese one as well.

I've soured on sausage kolache's. Seems like most places use the cheapest and smallest sausages they can find. 90% of the kolache is bread, and that just sucks.

There used to be a place in Pearland that made them with Killen's brisket. Never tried it, but always sounded like something I may want to stick my pecker in.

Those h&c from Shipley's are money. The ham tends to be especially salty and it's glorious.

Yeah, pena's used to use the killens brisket. I don't think they had them the one time that i went in there. They are opening a new location at pearland parkway at the Bw that I will frequent.

A girl i work with digs the sausage out of the kolaches and just eats that part. She leaves the bread & cheese. I think she's loose.

Next time, go one block further back from the hwy or so. Way better kolache spot.

This is accurate. Their kolaches are better.

Their sausage rolls may also be good, but I prefer their kolaches.

My apologies

It is a much better Czechoslovakian pastry establishment.

They will, in fact, take your money regardless of what you call their baked goods.

Texas Hot this morning - dang they good. For the uninitiated, it's the sausage, jalapeno, & cheese at KF. Spicy, cheesy, salty, sweet. Talmbout.

What makes kolache guy even funnier is that when I was in the Czech Republic last summer, no one even knew WTF a klobasnek was. I asked multiple people in Prague and in the countryside.

And "kolache" just basically means "dessert", not specifically what kolache guy thinks is a kolache.

So kolache guy's asshattedness isn't even legit.

LMAO. Brilliant. So you hate "kolache guy" but you went around Prague asking people if they had ever heard of klobasnek? Out of curiosity, did you find anybody that put sausage in their "dessert" while you were there?

Hey, I dont care one way or another. Im second generation born Houstonian so kolache to me was what Shipley's was calling that. It would only come up every now and then while eating actual fruit or cream cheese kolaches that grandpas family didnt call them that. But we all used kolache anyway, even grandpa. Call it whatever you want.

The guy I was quoting though, do you really think he went to the Czech Republic and asked around just to play journalist and serve some facts to "kolache guy?" He even says he went out of his way to get opinions from both Prague and the countryside. He either made that up, or he's more of a certified nut than any Czech guy who's family was serious about what they called their cultural foods. Then he added that stupid "dessert" factoid as if that helped his case?

The only kolache place I know of that definitely separates the two types is Hruska's on 71 in Ellinger. Pretty good bakery there, but they definitely split up what they call Kolache from pigs in blankets or klobasnik or whatever. I still get mine from Shipleys on the rare occasion i have one.

Umm its right there in the post. You can read this very slowly out loud and maybe you'll understand this post better.

When I was a kid, a kolache was what we bought on the weekend from Shipley Donuts that Shipley called a kolache. I brought up Houston, because thats where we lived and there were several Shipley Donut places. My parents also grew up in Houston, I presume thats where they first started buying kolaches, from Shipley Donuts in Houston. Hope this story helps you navigate your way through the Houston board today.

BEER for the win...did not have one bad beer the entire time in Czech Republic. Drank at a place that was a beer hall in 1242.

No dbag, I really like kolaches and wanted to have the authentic item while in the Czech Republic. And since every Kolache Nutjob constantly tells everyone that they are actually klobosneks, that's what I asked for.

You must be the guy that eats at McDonalds when you travel.

My bad, man. No need to get all upset. So you just made a mistake about the origin, so maybe you're not a complete nut. I do still find it pretty amusing that you've been eating a food created in Texas direct from the source but tried to get an "authentic" version from the Czech Republic and now you've tried to arrogantly turn that around to imply that I'm the one that has no food knowledge and eats at McDonalds...

I'm so sorry for assuming that they actually came from there. Every Czech d**khole that corrects anyone and everyone on the proper Czech nomenclature led me to believe that they were actually a Czech creation. Crazy, right?

I also would like to add that at my wedding I did not have a wedding cake. Instead I had a kolache bar. Cherry, poppyseed, cream cheese, peach, and my personal favorite blueberry cream cheese
