I worked at a fuddruckers in high school. They do indeed make most everything fresh everyday. Better quality meat and buns than whataburger, but sometimes you just have a hankering for the fast food you grew up on.

I wanted to believe you, but Wikipedia says it started as "Freddie Fuddrucker's" in San Antonio in 1979. Owned by Luby's today.

The Fuddruckers in The Woodlands is probably one of the oldest restaurants still standing in that community. I remember back when we moved there in the early 80s it was practically the only place in town. Think they've redone the shopping center it's in about 4 times since then, but it's hung around.

I am absolutely astonished that many people said fuddruckers has better fries. Their fries are soggy and disgusting wedges.Absolutely better burgers, but the fries are nasty as hell.

Whataburger is good fast food while Fuddruckers is average fast casual. If comparing side by side, I'd say Fuddruckers is better, but I think Whataburger accomplishes its concept better than Fuddruckers.

Both are good at what they're trying to do. Why either or?

I agree with you but I think people are judging the fudd's fries with a cup of jalapeo cheese, japs and pico on them.

I've never heard the mother fuddruckers thing.. I don't know about that.

They've had the condiment bar since day1 I thought. And they use Heinz ketchup and mustard.

Regarding the fries.. just like any fry, if they are fresh, they are really good. I don't know how they'd get soggy unless you dumped some cheese sauce on them. When I worked there (in CS), we had a pretty strict 5 minute rule on fries; if they sat under heat lamp for 5 minutes, we tossed them. During off peak hours, we would make a single batch of fries for every straggler customer that came in.

Fuddrucker's burgers are significantly better than anything Whataburger puts out. Completely different concepts though, so comparing them is not really fair to either one.

Honestly, Whataburger is vastly overrated in terms of burgers. They are among the best of the fast food burgers, but that's about it. And the last few times I've been through Whatabuger, the quality is just not there - dry burgers with way the hell too much salt. The only saving grace is that I can get things like grilled japs and onions and steakhouse sauce to cover up everything else.

OP here. My best friend insists that Whataburger burgers are superior to Fuddruckers. I think he's crazy, so I posted this question to Facebook a few years ago. The FB verdict was pretty split down the middle. I honestly could not believe that there was a good representation of people who if given the choice would eat a Whataburger burger over a Fuddruckers burger.

To me, it's not even a matter of discussion. Fuddruckers buns are amazing, their meat is cooked to order per your specified wellness (I must say that depending on location they can overcook the meat at times), and sky's the limit on toppings and sauces. I've heard the argument a few times that Fudd meat has no flavor; I don't understand this. They cook fresh meat on a commercial griddle that is used over and over and over to make burgers. That griddle is seasoned, the burger is seasoned, it's delicious.

Texas pride has a lot to do with the Whataburger infatuation IMO. And I get it, don't get me wrong, Whataburger is a legit fast food option that I have enjoyed my whole life living in this great state. It is by far the best fast food burger option in Texas. But better than Fudds? Cmon, shoot me straight here! I'm not saying Fudds is the best burger out there (maybe we can tear apart this list in another thread), but if you opened two silver platters and a Whataburger was under one and a Fudd burger under the other, given only one choice, the answer is obvious (unless you're just craving Whataburger).
