Uber charges $9/hr plus $1.10/mile plus a buck for their cheapest option before surge pricing. Drivers get 80%.

Get fked if you think your high school diploma and Toyota corolla makes you deserve more than that.

The buck goes straight to uber and they take 22% of the rest (2% goes to city of Houston). On a minimum fare ($5.10) the driver gets $3.20. There is no $9/HR. Subtract depreciation of your car and gas costs...

I was not aware of the split not applying to the dollar or COH extra 2%. The $9 is a very real thing and it's the very next line after distance on your receipt. I'm pretty sure it's different for every city and it goes up with the higher grade services, but for Uber x in Houston $9/hr of trip time.

Also, for gas/depreciation. IRS rate is like 55 cents right now, and my truck runs about 60 cents. These average guys in their $6-10k late model toyota/hyundai/kia aren't pushing 30 cents.

The nicer services with better vehicles get more than $1.10 to cover that difference.

If you're talking about rate per minute, it's $0.10 a minute, while you're driving someone, plus $1.10 a mile. That's it. There is no $9/hr for the driver.

source: I've been uber driving as a little supplemental income. I drive a nice Volvo S60 that isn't on their list of Select vehicles - thought it would be but in Houston it's not. So I get uberX only.

Ha I never argued that. It's just not like uber drivers get a certain amount per hour. The per minute part is pretty much negligible. That obviously doesn't count driving to the pick up spot, and waiting to get your next fare.

The driver gets .78 * ($1.10 per mile + $.15 per minute) while they have a passenger

Edit: you're right it's 15 cents not 10. It still ends up being pretty negligible and in an hour you probably have 30 mins of actual passenger in car drive time.

Drivers who joined after sept 11 get 28% uber commission taken out instead of 20%. That in theory would discourage some of the prospective drivers.

As an uber driver can you claim your mileage while on the clock as a business expense when doing your taxes or is uber claiming your mileage and part of the $1.10/mile is technically "reimbursement" at the irs set mileage rate?

Isn't that what makes America so great??

See a job that doesn't pay what you want? Take it anyways and then protest till you get what you want.

FYI starting this past Saturday October 3rd, Uber raised all fares by $1. They did this by raising the "safe rider fee" to $1.95 (which covers background checks and all the things to "ensure passenger safety", even though the driver pays out of pocket for all the fingerprinting, warrant checks, physical, drug test, fire extinguisher, licensing, etc. that the COH requires).

This is how they raise the fare without allowing the driver to make any more.

I heard some participants of this strike are gonna create fake uber accounts to call and cancel rides with the so-called "scabs" this weekend

I used uber three times this weekend. No issues. There was a surge on Saturday where I was but that's pretty usual and it was only about 1.8.

I rank this up there with the fast food $15/ hour strike
