About 12,000 bucks on a replacement system. Had the old one go on the fritz the other day and it would only run in the evening. I Had my service company of 10 years out, took a look at it, said it was a capacitor, replaced it...took 350 bucks...and left. Well, it didn't fix it. They came back out at 9pm and pretty much said "compressor is shot, I should really look into a new system just like it".
Well, My choices were to spend nearly 15k or 3k, and they couldnt even tell me why it failed. So...i started calling for second opinions. Mike Waters was the first one I called because of this site. He came out the next day and put in a new capacitor. I was skeptical about this since I just paid a lot and i swear to god he said "ive got them in the truck...tell you what...ill put them in...if it works...I won't charge you, how's that? You have nothing to lose, man."
He put them in...BOTH new capacitors. She fired right up.
My other company basically tried the most expensive capacitor first, offered to replace the other just in case but it would cost me about 120 bucks to do that. When the first one didnt do the trick...straight to the AC replacement.
I still got his parts and service call charge...I will be calling and paying in full. BTW...his cost for both capacitors was HALF what I was charged for the one.
So...the point is...give the man a call.

Im not saying its permanently fixed. It may have other un-related issues, its old, and I swear things happen after my old service company "checks" it out...but its running now and my stress level has dropped considerably.
Now I get to make the fun phone call to the original company. Glad I paid with CC.
