As to why this is happening more, or perhaps coming to light more often, and the underlying causes, i just don't know. Internet and social media? My theory is the ability to text. Even a socially awkward person can communicate via texting.
Edit - Heck, my naive and innocent dumb self might have just been able to avoid missing an obvious booty call had texting existed back on the day.
Now I'm depressed.
