The rib and I are lifetime members of a cookoff team. We have some extra wristbands this year. Email me at mowgi1 at aol dot com if you are interested in purchasing.

The cookoff team has a limited membership with a waitlist. The only way to access this private party tent is via member provided guest passes (ie wristbands). The is a large capacity double tent on a prime corner.

We have six guest passes that are available as pairs (2, 4, or 6) for use on Fri, Feb 22. $75 per guest pass if you buy 2 passes. $70 per guest pass if you buy 4 passes. $65 per guest pass if you take all six passes.

Guest pass allows come and go access to private party (all you can eat, open bar, private restrooms, and entertainment).

Each guest pass will admit one person into the cook-off tent on a space limited basis through the clubs front entry.

Friday schedule -
Private Party 10AM-11PM / Open Bar 12PM - 11PM
Lunch: 1PM - 3PM
Dinner 5:30 PM - 9PM
Menu: Traditional BBQ and all the fixings

Note: General Admission passes onto the Reliant Park cook-off grounds are sold by the
Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo™ and are $10.00 per person per day.

This is like selling passes to your wedding reception. Do you really not have any friends you would rather invite?

This is exactly why I don't go to the cookoff anymore.

And what a bargain! Only $75 ($150 per couple) for a bbq dinner (if they don't run out) and long lines for beer? Count me in.

In the OPs defense, don't know what tent he is in, but in ours, $66-75 is about what it costs per pass, based on how many tickets you get per sponsorship level.

So you're saying all the sponsors are irrelevant in their industries?

Oh la la! It's nice of Mr. Howell to throw us poors a bone.

None of that info was needed in your post. You come off as snooty. Give your wrist bands to friends.

I thought there were quite a few ppl on this board that wanted to buy some tickets.

and that is the going rate for extra wristbands at the tend I'll be attending (for sponsors). $75 ea for all you can drink top shelf liquor and private RR's. Along with the BBQ and band.

Good thing tents keep the rain off of you.

Doesn't it basically always rain one day during cookoff?

Stupid newbie question here - my wife got two passes for a tent on Thursday but we've never been before. Am I correct that all I need to do is buy us a couple of the one day Reliant passes to get in and then the wristbands will get us into the tent, correct?

Any suggestions on best places to park?
TXAG 05

You are correct. You just have to buy a ticket to get onto the grounds, or if you are on a committee, just bring your gold badge and you are in for free.

Not sure about parking, but I think Astroworld is usually the way to go.

Random question as this is my first year on a committee. I assume I just bring my badge to cookoff or a concert and then put it in my pocket or my girlfriend's purse after we're through the gate? Very noob to walk around with my badge on?

I can't recall ever seeing a random committeeman (as in someone not working, walking around with their badge on their street clothes.)

Mert2003, I am almost certain that the HLSR bbq cookoff rodeo rules say that teams may not sell invitations to their space online.

Team Guest Invitations
Requirements for Invitations

2. Invitations should indicate a space number, street name, and official team name.

3. Invitations may not include any of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo logos or “marks” without prior permission of Elizabeth Greer, WCBBQ management coordinator (greer@rodeohouston.com or 832-667-1103).

4. Teams may not create tickets as entry to their space that in any way resemble Reliant Park Admission Tickets as distributed by the Show or Ticketmaster.

5. Teams may not sell invitations to their space online (e.g., Craigslist, Ebay, Facebook) or from their space, at any other location within the Reliant Park footprint, or at any Show owned or operated facility during the Contest, move-in or move-out.

6. Team tickets may not include language indicating open or free bar service, including but not limited to phrases like “open bar” or “complimentary bar service.”

So he just needs to take off the part about being a member of the team and everything is fine.

I heard there was a tent that had strippers last year. Anyone remember what tent that was?
TXAG 05
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It just said teams can't sell passes, it doesn't say anything about individuals selling them.

Can some one explain the whole cook off thing to me. Cook Off to me implies you get to sample food from multiple places.

I went with a friend a few years ago, went to the ONE TENT we could get into, ate some average BBQ, drank some beer, walked around and people watched but really could not go into any other tent....

WTF is the point and why is it called a cook off when you can only eat food at that ONE place (and maybe a few 'public' places)....I just don't get it at all.
Texaggie7nine
How long do you want to ignore this user?
They have actual competition judging early in the day, which I think the public can sample some stuff, not sure though. The night is more less just a party for the cooking teams who can invite guests. Since they can be sponsored most of them have been bought up by big companies who use the tents as perks for clients and employees.

In my experience, a large number of committee members walk around with the badge attached to their clothing. Its easier to get through entrance lines, into committeemen clubs, corral clubs. You certainly don't have to have it attached though.

Also, there is a competition aspect of the cookoff that is important to many of the actual cooking teams. But for you and I, its a party. So enjoy it for what it is.
