Anybody care to offer an opinion on which of these two schools is the better option?

As far as I can tell, SBS has a higher avg SAT score, somewhat more affluent demographic (this cuts both ways IMO), and competes in TAPPS for sports.

HCHS has an excellent campus, and just switched to SPC. I think this school is going to turn into a pretty good one over time.

Other than that, I don't know that much about either school.

We're considering two K-8 schools that send a lot of kids to HCHS, but Second Baptist is also a possibility.

Any Eagles or Mustangs out there?

I can't say much on the K-8 portion, as I transferred into Second Baptist, my junior year, but I loved every minute of it. It's a very good school with teachers who truly enjoyed teaching the students. They do everything to prepare you for ACT/SAT IMO and the small classes (15-18ish) were really nice too. I felt very prepared when I graduated from there and moved on to graduate from A&M. I have also had 4 cousins go through there, 2 who have graduated, and 2 more who are in high school, who started in kindergarten there. If you do put your kids in SBS, you won't be disappointed.

I've also had friends go through HCHS (just the HS level) who also had good things to say about them as well.

Good luck in your decision!

For K-8, I would strongly consider Veritas Christian Academy of Houston in Bellaire. It is a classical model of education, which is the model we (the USA) and most of the world used until the 1940s when we moved to the progressive model. The classical model teaches students how to think logically and then how to express those thoughts rhetorically. It's impressive. Abe Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson were classically taught.

The school is growing and looking to add a high school. We went to the open house last year and the kindergarten class recited a Bible verse for us in french. Latin language training begins in 3rd grade. Just fyi, Veritas is having an open house Feb 20th at 9am.

I've got a couple of kids you could send there if you are just looking to send a lot of good kids.

Veritas is a non starter from a locational standpoint. However, I have heard from parents of kids at "classical schools" who have very positive things to say about them.

If we went with a Classical School, we'd likely go with Covenant School off Telge.

SPC vs TAPPS. Not a hard choice.

Not sure what exact area you are looking at, but my kids go to Our Savior Lutheran which has a classical christian education curriculum. It is north of 290 and Tidwell. It is K-8.

Ours are at Providence Classical School off of Spring-Cypress and just east of Stuebner Airline.

How do you like Providence?

I know somebody who put three kids through that school and really likes it.

We love providence. We've got two there now and a third, Lord willing, starting pre-K there next fall.
