During the week, if we go for dinner, we are usually in suits. Whatever you're wearing is an indicator of your employment. E.g pleated khakis and a golf shirt means you're an engineer. Affliction shirt and stitched/flap pocket jeans means you're a bouncer/club promoter.

having to wear a suit pretty much every day for work, if i'm out on my own time i'm in jeans and a button down. i don't really care about what those around me think about me, and i'll let the waiter form his opinion based on the bill and tip.

...so maybe that would make me seem fat and lazy...which is probably an accurate assessment.

Hell yeah. You have to be comfortable if your job is to stare at a damn computer screen seated in a cubicle for 8-12 hours a day.

The guys at the T-Mobile kiosks at Katy Mills wear suits. One day I hope to be them.

bahahaha....LOL at not wearing jeans and a polo at Pappas.

You guys act like its some kind of f-ing high end eatery. You some funny mofos.

There are places I wear slacks and button downs, but Pappas ain't one of them. I usually wear jeans and polo.....at the HIGH end of my 'dressing up'.....middle of the week, weekend...don't care. F--- those pretentious *******s and their regularly quality food.

You can make your patrons wear slacks, button downs, and jackets...and you can charge an arm and a leg for your food, but the food is still just 'pretty good'. WTF is wrong with Houston people?

Brazos sounds like a wanna-be baller and 100% ******nozzle.

So if P-Bros isn't a high-end eatery, please provide us a list of places that you frequent that are.

Dress code at places like Pappas Bros. is less of a rule and more of a level of respect - for the establishment, its clientele, your date and yourself. There are patrons that remember a time when wearing jeans to just about any night out was unheard of - they are the smooth elders who are in a jacket (and probably a tie), not because they have to but because they want to. They want to show their lady or fellow diners that they care enough to dress up for them. They want to show the proprietors that they respect what they are trying to do. They also have pride in themselves and their appearance.

Dressing like a slob because you can just shows you don't get it. If the maitre d', waiter, manager, sommelier, bartender, etc. look down upon you, they have a right to - because you have shown them no respect.

To the OP - slacks and a button down is minimally acceptable, jacket is preferred. Kudos for asking.

htown,

what if you're just getting a shrimp cocktail and a 10 oz filet to go?

do you need to wear a jacket for the pick up?

how much "respect" does a place warrant where you can see and hear the waitstaff and cooks in the kitchen preparing plates and yelling at each other?

Yah, if the place has all those niceties, then I would probably dress up some. I just don't tend to go to places like that, being a notorious cheapskate.

I can get 90% of the quality of steak for 30% of the price, and "atmosphere" isn't why I select a place to eat. I just don't care for that sort of thing. I'm not rolling in my own cash or spending my stockholders' money to dine, and if I can't eat at places like that on a regular basis, why should I really want to chose to pretend to be of that social caste and do it on a special occasion? I'm just not part of that group of people, and I'm content with that.

I'm sure the food and service are great.

my guess is some of yall harping about dress code haven't been to pappas bros steak and only imaging it as an elegant dining experience and not the loud and bustling place it's designed to be.

or i'm just a slob.

It is only loud in the common area for all the poors. We wealthy rich mofos who dress appropriately eat in the back wine rooms with only 4 tables with different napkins and place settings.

the guy at the next table over had the black napkins and a flower arrangement brought to his table before they sat down, and he was wearing jeans and a button-down.

Wearing a Jos A Bank two for one blazer and some Dockers at Pappas or any other Houston steakhouse is more disrespectful than someone in jeans, loafers, and a button down.

Jeans are fine at Taste of Texas, but if you are going to V&A, Pappas Bros, Lynns, Brenners, etc. it doesn't hurt you to throw on a coat.
BunkerHill

Do you take the coat off while you are eating or leave it on?

You have to admire someone that won’t wear jeans to a steakhouse but will order his ribeye medium well. Respect the dining room, piss on the chef.

Those a-holes are just pissed off that its not 1965 anymore or that there are only a few restaurants that they can go to and pretend they have more money than they really do. It makes them feel special when they can play dress up. Its just pretentious bull****...no big deal.

"YESSIR! We got us a leased 3 series BMW, we got us a new house in Houston, I got my 3 for one suits from Penneys.....WERE GOING TO PAPPAS STEAK HOUSE! LIVING LARGE!!! NO SLOBS HERE!"

One of my dad's clients is some kind of steak fanatic who's always sending him gift cards to different chain steak restaurants. So when I go with them, we put do indeed put on jackets like it's 1965 and pay with a gift card.
