I realize that this will likely fall on mostly young drunk ears, but I just thought that I would try. Trying to research facilities for my grandmother's benefit in the Deer Park area and hopefully visit them this upcoming weekend.

Not too many options in Deer Park outside of The Waterford on McDermott.

You would have more options if you were comfortable having her in the Pasadena area. Although, theres not a whole lot of places I would let my grandma live in Pasa-Get Down-Dena!

Waterford is the only thing that I can really find in Deer Park as well. She currently lives in Pasadena. That whole little area is where she is originally from and a lot of our family is there, which is why she wants to stay put.

There are several around Bayshore hospital in Pasadena. They are building a brand new one on Vista and Burke that is going to be a big one! There is one that looks nice on the beltway feeder. I don't have any experience with them other than working in this area.

Are the family and friend likely to visit and check on the patient? Who will be responsive to the 2am phone calls from the nurses when there is an issue?
If no one local will be responsible enough to do that you are probably better off moving her closer to you, even if it is not near where she knows.
My MIL has alzheimer's so she has gone from assisted living, memory unit, now to full nursing care because she is no longer mobile. Memory units have the locking doors that keep the patients from wandering off. I have seen some that use ankle monitors to alert the nurses when the patient goes beyond a certain area.
We have gotten several late/early calls from the home, but since we are almost 2 hrs away, all we can do is give them authorization over the phone do do whatever. We didn't pick this location, but we are moving her next month.

There are family members that will visit her there, yes. One of her nieces (the sweetest, most responsible) has a power of attorney over her now and has been an angel. I don't mind being the 2am phone call as I will most likely be paying the bill, but authorization is all that I can do for her as well.

This may seem strange, but call local funeral homes and ask if there are any they might have experience with and if you should avoid some.

The Waterford is a great facility. Stay away from Colonial Oaks on Vista.

I drive by there a lot and this one looks like it is going to be pretty nice, but a word of advice would be to get on it early b/c some of them have a waiting list. I have a friend that works at Bayshore Towers (another Senior-Assisted living center) and she says they get backed up quite often.

She currently lives and torments everyone at Bayshore Towers, actually. Looking for something a little bit more oldster-like.
