The Houstonian golf club is nice but it's way out in the boony's of Richmond/Rosenberg.

I just find it odd that the main club is a good 40 minute trec from the golf club.

although they both fall under the same company, you cannot reciprocate the Houstonian golf club and the Houstonian Hotel, Club and Spa.

Houstonian Golf Club also has a Trellis spa and a top notch exercise facility

interesting Harry...I did not know that.

still wouldn't be an option unless you lived out in Katy or Sugar Land.

I've only experienced BraeBurn but I liked it immensely. Golf course was great and their tee times were so staggered when I played that we felt like we were the only ones on the course.

Very nice amenities too.

and everyone was very nice too... I don't think there was anyone around the course that didn't shake hands and introduce themselves.

based on yall's input and the fact that i have 2 young children, i will likely choose Sweetwater. going on a tour tomorrow. i do like the Braeburn golf course, but i don't think it is nearly as friendly of a club to young families.

Braeburn does a great 4th and a lot of cool kids stuff during the summer. There won't be as nuch family stuff but the stuff they do do is very good.

To me is boils down to distance and size. Sweetwater is fine but it is far and the membership is huge. BB is less family oriented but the course is better and the membership is smaller. You'll be treated better bc all of the staff will know you. The mens lockerroom is mucho better too.

From my brief visit I can speak to both of these. The locker room was great, and every staff person we encountered knew our host by name.

Lakeside is pretty nice now. They updated the locker rooms, the pools, and have a killer workout facility. Good influx of 40Ish guys. It sounds like it isnt convenient though.

Any raveneaux commentary? We're ITL but have some friends out there paying around 250/mo... W/mrs. Rononeill playing, it gets pretty easy to drop 250+ in a month. Mix that w/ her lady friend playing out there the math starts to work...

I guess I can add my .02.

I'm a member at Riverbend CC. Joined about 1 1/2 ago. Am 33 and pay less than 300 / month. I enjoy it for 3 reasons. I LOVE the course (always in great shape) and I love the locker room atmosphere. Great place to bring clients. I also live very close. The problem with Riverbend is it isnt what I would consider a "family oriented CC". There are very few families that use the tennis courts and pool (although everything is nice even the weight room). Big Oil / Gas membership.

I was a member at Sweetwater growing up. Never liked it. Too many members. Not a "know you by name feel". There are more ammenities for families. It has indoor tennis / raquettball / tennis / nice gym, etc...Alot of foreigners are members.

I've played Braeburn CC alot recently also. I think I disagree with someone above...it did seem famility oriented. Lots of wives / kids at pool. Nice course (but I like Riverend more). A little more expensive that Riverbend. Alot of bankers / real estate are members.

Lakeside is the nicest. Will take you 8 months probation to get in. Much more expensive than the rest. But Lakeside is legit. Definitely the nicest of all choices. Lots of lawyers are members.

Again, just my opinions...

Best golf course on the SW side of Houston is WestWood and about the same poor neighborhood as Braeburn. Braeburn has some cool history (Jimmy Demaret) but was redone many years ago, too short now and will take the driver out of your hand too often.

Sugar Creek? Used to have 27. Have not seen that one in years. Riverbend would be my number two on the SW side. Saw Royal Oaks mentioned, Couples designed track that is better than average but if you want to walk occasionally it is not "do-able". 40,000 sq ft clubhouse - big overhead? You are already on to Sweetwater.

This is a good problem to have, you should be able to have fun "testing" them all. Just moved to the NW side, sounds like I need to check out Hearthstone.

After playing Hearthstone yesterday I can confirm it is mostly full of olds, and nary an HJ in sight.

BBurns track is short but it's tough! Tight tight tight with plenty of water and OB. Both par 3s on the front are 200plus with water and it's all carry all the way. Nice elevation changes too which is rare in da tine. Its * fun track that will test your game for sure.

inozips,

What's WestWood like now? I worked there in high school and one of my neighbors was the pro. What exactly went down there with deciding to close, redo the course and reopen? Did they dissolve the old membership?

Harry- it's my understanding with the Houstonian that if you're a golf member you get access to the club & spa and all the stuff at their Post Oak location. However, just membership at their club& spa doesn't get you golf too.

Anyone know the cost for Westwood- initiation and dues?

Chip - WestWood has completely changed indoor tennis gone, old clubhouse/pro shop gone. The range was moved to the left of nine. Keith Foster did the redo, he did Quarry and The Bandit. I'm not a big fan of the Quarry but really like The Bandit. WestWood did completely blow up the membership. Not that there is anything wrong with that...

98Ag - not sure initiation it should be up now the now the new Clubhouse has been built. I'd guess 30k for a full membership.

What about you always screwing your friends out of strokes so you can win lots of $ from them?

Finn, there used to be some reciprocal arrangement between Houstonian golf in Richmond and the spa/club in town, but there is none anymore. They're completely separate entities now.

Played there yesterday. It was in pretty good shape. Definitely worth playing.

Pretty hard course for long hitters. The tips are 6600...so its pretty short. Alot of doglegs.

If you arent good with your 3wood / 5wood...gonna have problems.

Bringing this old thread back...looking at golf options along the 59s and BW8 to i10 area.

I had never heard of Westwood, but it looks like it's a pretty good course according to reviews. Amenities look sparse beyond locker rooms and casual dining.

Seems Braeburn isn't a great track?

Sweetwater too big? Lakeside is out of the budget....Royal Oaks probably outside the budget, not sure what it really is today.

I think royal oaks is 75 or 85 ish initiation. The club house and locker rooms are pretty amazing. Tough course, but then again I suck.

Uhh, way outside budget then. Plus i just read that monthly is around $1k...

It doesnt HAVE to be private...but i dont really see any public courses in this area anyways.

I am at Brae burn and it has been great.. Capital improvement will make it even better and long overdue.

Didn't like Royal oaks or Weestwood.

PM if have any specific questions..

I don't Royal oaks initiation isn't that high.

Lakeside , yes that much
