20 years of work, 7k watch. $350 per year bonus. Awesome. Or a hideous presidential at 20k. $1k per year bonus. Insulting.

Sorry for insulting Rolex loving peasants here. Enjoy your 1 million per year, commercial production pos.

Boy laketravis you're not opinionated or anything.

Rolex is a great watch One of the few who make 100% of their movements in house and all the parts for the movements.

Here is a list of companies who make all their own movements.
•Glashütte
•Girard Perregaux
•Grovana Revue Thommen
•Jaeger-LeCoultre
•Orient
•Patek Philippe
•Prim
•Rolex
•SeaGull
•Vacheron & Constantin
•Vostok
•Vulcain
•Zenith

Here is a list of expensive manufacturers who don't.
•Ball Watch Co
•Breitling
•Breguet
•Chopard
•IWC
•Omega
•Panerai
•Tag

A company that makes 1 million watches per year does not make anything in house. Rolex is a mass produced, overpriced pos, with great marketing appealing to boring tasteless sheep.

Where is a. Lange & shone, blancpain, audemars, fp journe, etc on your list?

What's awesome is people arguing over the quality and price of an outdated gadget that you wear on your wrist that really serves no real purpose other than to try to tell other people how much cache monay you got.

I guess I really don't understand the hoopla over watches.

And I don't understand why people wait in line days to buy a new cell phone or any other electronic item at a ridiculous price that will be outdated in a couple of months. But people do it.

But at least that cell phone does awesome things like browsing the net, watching live video, talking to other people, ect. Oh yeah, they also can tell you exact time as they can sync with the the national clock, the day of the year, the time of sunset and sunrise, and give you a calendar to plan events on.

A watch does f' all.

Yeah, my $99 outdated iPhone does it as well. No need to spend $500 on one just because it's new. Not to mention if I'm not up for renewal, I have a termination fee.

Even then, you have more features, faster processors, higher resolution screens, all things that add to the enjoyment of using it. With watches, WTF do I care if it was hand crafted gears? How does that help my enjoyment of using it? All I care about is that it's accurate, and I understand quality has to do with that, but beyond that, its all crap that is just pointless.

Do any of you actually own any of these other high end watches you mention or do you just subscribe to Dupont Registry and Cigar Aficionado?

You do know that Blancpain is owned by Swatch. I know they are handmade but I am sure clever marketing has nothing to do with their perceived value.

Gives you the satisfaction of knowing that you are wearing something on your wrist that costs more than most people's car.

Dr. Manning always used to say it was smarter to wear a nice watch than drive a nice car because you couldn't take the car into the club.

If that's your goal, a Rolex will do you more good than anything else. The only people who will recognize your Blancpain are other watch geeks.

This reminds me of the company I did work for. Owner's son-in-law kept trying to show off some watch of his that he ended up getting at a pawn shop. I think it was the Blue Angel's watch (which I think is kinda cool), but I honestly think his was a knock off.

Was funnier when the production manager came in with his touch screen watch that turned into a compass and a few other things. Railed on the guy for a bit then the SiL busted out "Well, I have an iPhone too. Your phone is a PoS". This was 18 months ago; the guy is/was 30ish.

Watch snob fights are funny.

Easy chief. I carry a 1940 Railroad grade pocketwatch on a daily basis. Its a prized piece of jewelry. Thing is, in 50 years, it will still work and be useful...can't say that for my iphone.

And personally, anyone that thinks a Rolex is a 'tasteless' time keeping device....is a grade A 100% ******y tool bag. No way around it. The only people that rag on expensive watches (or anything) in favor of an even more expensive one, are those that would be doing good to be able to afford an IndiGlo from Timex. That may not be the case here, but every single person I have ever known that railed against a high end item was a jealous, envious tool and drove around a 15+ year old vehicle.

laketravisag sent up a gigantic waving red flag the moment his post popped up.

Rolex isn't tasteless...it's just generic, which isn't a bad thing for most people.

They're the Lexus of watches.
