That may be true, and they may be nothing more than status symbols, but they are quality pieces of jewelry. Its a little angering to see a poster come on here and ask an honest question and have some do uchecanoe interject their condescending opinion simply to put up a front that they are somehow well versed or connoisseurs of the topic.

So they're generally well made, boring and worn by women and Asians?

This reminds me of the company I did work for. Owner's son-in-law kept trying to show off some watch of his that he ended up getting at a pawn shop. I think it was the Blue Angel's watch (which I think is kinda cool), but I honestly think his was a knock off.

Was funnier when the production manager came in with his touch screen watch that turned into a compass and a few other things. Railed on the guy for a bit then the SiL busted out "Well, I have an iPhone too. Your phone is a PoS". This was 18 months ago; the guy is/was 30ish.

Watch snob fights are funny.

The $22K Blancpain fifty fathom posted earlier is for the the gold cased watch, the same watch with stainless steel case is about $8-9k...fairly steep for a watch but inline with other luxury watches of the same caliber. I have a Blancpain Leman flyback and will hold on to this thing forever and one day hand it down to the kids.

Random *****s at bars always take a second look at my Swiss Army watch thinking its a Rolex submarine because it resembled one. Once a girl grabbed my arm and brought closer to her to get a good look. They almost always have a look of disappointment on their face after. I couldn't believe it the first time it happened. The strippers at T-Town do it too when they are sizing me up to figure out how much I'm going to spend. Its hilarious. I do wish I had a Sub mariner though. I can't wait to see what happens when I get one and wear it out at bars.

dino,

I don't think it was a Eco drive, since I had one and he was asking about it. But the 2nd watch you got right, I think. The name sounds familiar. As you can tell, I didn't care THAT much.

That guy was fun to make fun of day in, day out. Everyday was something new. Bet you if you knew whether or not an ant bit your or stabbed you. Or if the irritation was from the sting or your body. Stupid things like that.

Chuck, what do you think of Invicta?
TAMUAGGIES
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Invicta really screwed themselves by deeply discounting their watches all over the internet....they actually look nice, but when you can get them so cheap you start to wonder how good are they actually....no doubt that the markup on watches is very high, but i think they do a poor job of branding. I'm sure they are just as good as half the watches out there.
jetch17
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah you can get an invicta for $70-80 on any given day online discounted from $300 retail. Obviously no rolex or Swiss piece, but look nice and are a good intro into automatic watches. Fine for a day to day watch that you don't mind if something happens to it.

BBRex
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I might have to give them a look online. I wanted an automatic watch because I got tired of buying batteries, so I bought an Asian-market Seiko that looks way too much like a Rolex Sub. It's a great watch, but I'd like to wear a Rolex or not. I bought a quartz Zodiac next just to switch it up. I would like an automatic I can wear everyday, but that doesn't look like a sub wannabe.

BBRex,

I think TAMUAGGIES & jetch17 are both correct. That said, I think Invicta is a good entry level watch. They have great styles, a reliable movement, and the upper end ones have sapphire crystal.

If you look at some comments on this thread a few things are written between the lines:

First, some people here really should relax and try not to take life so seriously.

Second, a watch with sapphire crystal, jeweled movements (ie 17 jewels, 21 jewels, etc) are well made typically, stainless steel versus mystery metal cases AND bands or clasps if leather/neoprine rubber on the bands, two year manufacturers warranty, etc, are watches you can count of being around for a while.

Any Rolex I have worn was made so my grandson might one day pass it on, if kept up with. I also have a Timex runners watch, and I tend not to overhaul the tranny on my tractor, with the Rolex on.

As with most things, honesty and common sense trump all. A guy who only carries Rolex in his store may tell you it is the only watch you should wear. I say pick the right tool for the job. If you are helping me with the tranny, you are a fool to wear your Rolex. If you are selling me a Mercedes, I might apprecaite your Rolex. I also might not.

My business model is one that allows me to acquire most any medium to high end watch you want. If you are looking for an entry level watch, I can help you also, but Amazon likely has it for the same price I can get it.

I don't have a dog in the fight to make you spend as much as you can, beacause I am a wholesaler. I make the same on your Tag Heuer purchase as your Patek Philippe.

A relatively unknown watch that is built really well for the price point is Justex.

I have three Justex Watches left in total! These Watches are Swiss Made, Heavy, nice watches, and they come with a 2 Year Warranty. You can learn more about them at www.justex.ch

(I wear this watch often with a rubber diver's band, and I get compliments on it all the time.)

Swiss Made Justex Watch, Brushed Stainless Steel, AUTOMATIC MOVEMENT WITH SEE THROUGH BACK, Day/Date, 5 ATM water rating, Mineral Crystal, Belt Buckle Clasp, Black Stitched Leather Band, oversized face 51mm Retails for $1040.00, I sell it for $450.00, but I only have one!

If you are shopping watches, find the one you like and let me quote it. You have a Tourneau in Houston. You can put just about any watch you want on your wrist there. LEt me know the manufacturers ID number on the back, and I can price it. You would want to do this soon for Christmas, as it can take 2-3+ weeks to get one!

I don't try to make a living selling watches, but as a self confessed watch geek, I am happy to help you.

+++Warning - the first higher end watch you put on your wrist is not the last. Just ask any bow hunter about the first bow he or she bought. It was the cat's meow when purchased, but they cannot remember it now...very addictive stuff here...run away!+++

BBRex, i was given the Invicta diver shown in jh0400's post and it has turned out to be a good watch for what it is. Get compliments on it all the time, the automatic works great, just a good day to day watch.

im not looking to wear something the price of a car on my wrist for the sake of dewshery.

Years from now as my career progresses i would look into getting something higher end but not retardedly exhorbitant.

My parents both have Rolex watches.

my dad gave one to my mom on their 7th anniversary, and vise versa on their 10th.

So my mom's been wearing hers daily for 33 years, and my dad daily for 30 years.

So who was calling these thing POS's?

I'd say that $1K (for both watches, in late 70's dollars) turned out to be a fine investment. They could buy the same watch new today, for about $3K ea. But theirs still works.
