I would like to know if anybody on here has a connection to get a good deal on a new Rolex Watch. The company I work for (Aggie owned and operated) gives away Rolex watches to employees that have been with the company for 20+ years. Over the last 5 years the price of the watch we give out has increased almost 50%. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Just fire those approaching 20 years before you have to buy the watches!

But seriously, I have no discount connections for Rolex watches. I would however recommend Zadok Jewelers on Post Oak for fantastic service.

It's VERY rare to find a new Rolex at a discount, if not impossible. Their prices have steadily gone up at least over the last 15 years that I've been watching them. There's usually not much difference in price between dealers.

I know a guy downtown. The street corner he's located on depends on the time of day.

Considering that Gold Silver and Platinum prices are up between 50% and 150% over the last 5 years you probably are not going to have much luck.

There is a building on Richmond close to the old Joe's Crab Shack between Chimney Rock and Voss/Hilcroft - the building is full of Jewelers - many of them sell high end watches at discounts compared to retail shops. I've heard they are usually willing to sell around 10% over cost but it has been a little while since i worked with them.

Also check with Chuck the jeweler 5th C he may be able to do something for you.

Try the internet, my buddy got a real nice Rolex from there, for under $300 shipped to his door. That was a few years ago so they may be a little more expensive now, but as bonus they deliver it inside of a Hello Kitty alarm clock.

If you buy a "discounted" Rolex, or one off an internet site, at best it is a black market watch that will not have a manufacturers warranty, at worst it will be fake.

Why even take the risk of saving 10-15%? To me it's just not worth it.

Strike a relationship with a jeweler that knows you will have multiple purchases in the future and I am sure you two can work something out. Chuck the Jeweler might be your best bet since he might give you little blue diamond and he is also an Ag.

If you go to Rolex.com and look at dealer locator there are only 9 official Rolex dealers in Houston. Anything else is grey market or used. The same goes for anything on the internet. Official dealers are not allowed to sell new Rolex's on the internet.

I was looking for Rolexs for company gifts a while back and did some shopping around.

8 of the official Houston dealers are your typical high end jewelry stores that typically will not cut a deal on name brand watches like they will on rings etc.

The 9th where I found the best prices was Karat 22 which is an Indian run jewelry store at Harwin @ Hillcorft. It is a really nice place and they were willing to come off retial considerably and you were still buying from an official rolex dealer.

They're as legit as any store who's not an authorized dealer.

From their website...

We are not, nor are we affiliated with authorized dealers of any of the timepiece manufacturers advertised.

For such an expensive purchase, I'd stick with brick and mortar stores who are authorized dealers.

Plus for a company gift you do not want to give a grey market watch because I am pretty sure it voids the warrany.

I bought my Rolex used from Hal Martin's on westheimer because I did not want to pay retail and it looks good as new.

Why don't you reward your employees with a real watch? I would be insulted if I got a boring tasteless Rolex after 20 years with a company.

And the discount will depend on the model.

You're not going to get much of a discount on a Rolex because they sell at the price that's set. On top of that, they hold their value really well, and sometimes, have the value go up. These are pieces of jewelry, not just watches. I have an Omega Seamaster that's going for about $300 more used than I paid for it new in '07 from an AD due to it being a highly desired piece that's not made anymore.

Harwin Dr?

Seriously, the materials are not the reason Rolexes cost so much. If the cost were based on the materials, they'd be only a small fraction of what they sell for. You are paying a HUGE markup for the label, of course, and they are a quality product, so you pay for that as well.
laketravisag
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Hombre you are missing the point. I have no problem with collectible watches. I was merely pointing out that even a collectible Rolex is still a tasteless pos.
hombre
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Or maybe you are being a pretensions POS and crapping all over a pretty damn cool gesture from an employer.

Why do I say you are a snob? Because you name drop an esoteric watch complication that adds about $50k to a watch. Why? Is it to show off you know what it is? Amaze the forum with your sophistication?

Aren't unnecessary complications just an ostentatious display of wealth? Tasteless?

Or do collectors derive value from what the watch means to the individual. Tourbillons, minute repeaters, etc.. are impressive examples of workmanship and engineering and that's why people buy them and not for what the public thinks. Some see their Rolex's as the first real watch they were able to buy or, to borrow from a Patek ad, a meaningful heirloom.

The point is to call a employer bought Rolex is, as you say, tasteless.
