Anyone know of good/inexpensive locations inside the loop?

TIA

All the one's I know of are quite a bit outside of the loop.

Doesn't the Marq*e have one? You're either going to have to deal with junior highers, deal with getting shot, or most likely some combination of the two.

Marqee has one of those glow in the dark putt putt places, full of vatos, homies, and emo freaks.

one, outside the loop, at the go-kart track on old Hempstead Hwy.
Very old-school & low budget.

Last time I attempted to go the the Marquee one (January) it was shut-down.

And that Go-Karts / Mini-Golf one is pretty ghetto-fab, but the go-karts were fun. The mini-golf looked pretty sketch though.

There's the one on 59S. Zuma I think it is called now? Around Hillcroft? Not too far outside the loop. It's ghetto fab, but fits the bill. My ex and I hit up the batting cages before she played softball with us a couple of years ago. The batting helmet was cracked and exposed at top. Half of the balls were broken which produced wicked curveballs as they whizzed at you.

the putt putt at Speedys on Hempstead is the epitome of thoed and looks like it sucks balls. Ruining childrens birthday parties on the karts is highly recommended, though.

Theres a Mountasia at Willowbrook, but thats a ways out for most.

The glow putt at MarqE is quite possibly one of the sh*ttiest & ghetto places i have seen. The blacklight stuff gets annoying after about the 1st hole.

Is Fame City still in existance? They used to have an indoor put put.

Fame City is now FunPlex. But I'm too scared to check it out. I have too good of memories of that place to have em crushed.

Wow... Fame City. There's a blast from the past. Growing up in New Orleans, my favorite things about visiting my parents friends in Houston were Astro games and Fame City.

Didn't they have a pseudo-laser tag thing there also?

They didn't have an actual lazer tag that I can recall. Closest thing was that ride that spun around while you sat in this cart with a gun on the front and shot at things up on the ceiling.

I think I remember that half ass lazer tag. It might have been somewhere else. I remember the bowling alley, the put put, the stupid ride, the upstairs arcade area, the shooting range with the guns that shoot light and activate things, and the skating rink. Too many years and too many beers for perfect recollection.

Mountasia up off 249 next to Willowbrook Mall is still going strong.

Where was the Malibu Grand Prix on the SW Fwy? According the wikipedia there were some murders there back in the 80s.

I'm pretty sure the Malibu Grand Prix was right on the southeast side of the Westpark curve. It was approximately between the w-park tollroad and 59, right where the gas station where all the illegal day laborers hang out is. It had a really big go cart track. Don't remember any murders, but things got, and still are, pretty rough around there.

Did we have 2 Malibu's? Cuz I know we had one on 610 north of 10

I think you can still see the old castle from that Malibu. It's a stone sales yard now. That track was bigger and I know it had put put. The one on 59 may have been called something else, but I think it was Malibu.

The Malibu murders happened July 1, 1983 according to Wikipedia. Kind of weird it was brought up so close to the anniversary!

An article about those Malibu Grand Prix murders.

http://www.baylor.edu/Lariat/news.php?action=story&story=11287

quote:
They robbed the place of approximately $1,300 and killed four young men who worked there, stabbing each victim repeatedly.

'Every time I drive by that location, I think about what that scene looked like,'' J.C. Mosier, a former Houston homicide detective who worked the case, said Monday. 'In that rest room, there was at least two inches of blood on that floor. It was like they had a water leak. I'll never forget that. It's the most blood I'd ever seen at one location. It was awful.'

Medical examiners had difficulty determining if the victims also had been shot because the bodies had been stabbed so many times and there was so much blood.
